Hello everyone [hi]
I have been taking biaxin/plaquenil for 3 months now and I am feeling better. Have had herxes and then felt better. For the past 2 weeks I have had this itching all over mostly at night when I get home but now it is all of the time. Is this a herx or what and what can i do? have tried lotion thinking it is dry skin but when I scratch I have these small bumps that go away and come back only when I scratch??????? If anyone knows what this is please tell me I am going crazy. Benadryl knocks me out for days.

I'm not a dr. I've had same things...it's the lyme spirochettes or could be morgallon's..do a search to read about morgallons.

Mimi, please do an edit/PENCIL icon and shorten your LONG paragraph to 6-8 lines of text and DOUBLE space in between them for us chronic lymies who can't read/comprehend as is.l
Thanks a lot; perhaps you will get more replies than too.

Skin ointment, all types, DO NOT help me at all!

Betty:

I've been meaning to ask you this for awhile.

I see you post this request a lot. In some cases, like the one above, her post IS only 5 lines of text, so I'm confused as to why you ask Mimi to edit it so no paragraph is longer than 6-8 lines long.

I clearly must be misunderstanding what you are asking. Are you asking for a double space between each line of text? But, then again, you didn't.

Color me confused.

I've had intense itchy-all-over skin when detoxing from yeast -- so I imagine it could be a herx.

ALSO, tonight I am having more itching than usual. The eyes, inside my left ear. Neck, back, etc..
All over.

Could be the Doxycycline, and artemisia annua I started yesterday?

Jim.

From my recent experience of drastic itching, the doctor had no idea. This went on for almost two weeks and I have very bad scarring from scratching which I just couldn't help but do.

As it turned out it was from the Doxy. abx. coupled with all the other regime I was taking. This caused my blood pressure to excelerate, vomiting, etc. I stopped the abx. and within two days the itching stopped. As it turned out it was a very bad reaction to medicine. People, take my advise, the itching is not a herx or die off of spirochetes............itching is a result of abx., this was almost a deadly experience for me.

After the episode ended, the doctor agreed it was an abx. allergic reaction.

I feel for you and the only thing that will help get you through this is to stop all medications for a while.

This is only my experience, others may not have been as extensive as what I experienced.

You might need to keep close check on your accelerated heart rate, blood pressure. It was a horrible experience and one I never want to experience again.

Good luck.............

Call your LLD ASAP.It could be an allergic reaction. In the mean time stop the abx untill you hear from him.

You can take a drug for a while & then suddenly become allergic to it.

Take care & try not to scatch.
You might want to take the benadril before bed time & it might help and give you a good nights sleep, and not be up scratching all night.

I've been there. We never did quite figure out what caused it. I went off all my meds (doxy, plaquenil, biaxin), lowered my dose of amitriptylene and it went away.

Right now I am slowly adding the meds back in. I'm on the full dose of doxy, 1/2 dose of biaxin and will add the plaquenil if all goes well.

My LLMD makes sure that I have someone around "in case something really bad happens" when I start or increase the dose.

He also thought it could be a yeast buildup and started me on Nystatin. Who knows.

I had also been taking the abx for about 3 months when this hit.

The Herx response (and stimulated immune system and immune response) can cause abnormally high levels of histamine, leading to the itchiness. It might actually make you feel like you are having an allergic reaction. Some people report that taking quercetin supplements help block the histamine reaction.

NOTE...THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE. Just an observation.

Thank you to all of you for your responses. I am really torn now about what to do. I have an appt. feb.15 I will try to hang in there until then. Thanks again

I had intense insane itching from Lyme and Bartonella. It feels different from hives that are an allergic reaction. I could tell it was the Lyme disease because the itch would almost feel like a burn, and if I pinched the skin where it itched it would be really painful and tender underneath the itch where I pinched. The pinching was also much more effective at getting rid of the itching in the long run than scratching the itch was. So if it is a superficial itch, I would guess it is an allergic or histamine reaction. If it almost feels like a burn, and it originates deeper, than I would guess it is Lyme disease or Bartonella, or both combined.

Hi:
I had the itching all over like nuts last night. Just suffered through it as I don't want to scratch my skin raw, and you can't even get at some of the itching, as if feels like deep in side, beyond the surface.

I don't feel like I am going to die though, when it happens, so will try to stay on the doxycycline for the rest of my 28 day regimen. Then will switch to Amoxicillin for 28 days after a 7 day rest off of abx, but not off of herbs. The herbs always make me feel better, not like the abx.

Pain is back now though in the left knee tendons and upper calf muscles. Was GONE when on herbs alone. However, now the pain is different, or maybe my brain is just different. As NOW the pain doesn't feel like it is off in the distance, and I have more feeling in my legs and my brain is more aware of each and every part of my body, not like before any treatment. So just watching and waiting right now.

Be VERY careful Mimi (and everyone with itching)...I did have an allergic reaction to Septra (Sulfa-based). I was itching and had red spots on my torso areas. Had a hive/blister as well. Watch out for those signs.

My llmd warned that if I had continued, it could have led to Stevens-Johnson syndrome...which could be deadly.
