Could someone remind me of the exact details of Dr. S.' s Diflucan/Penicillin protocol for Lyme? Doses of each and amount of time on each. For my daughter...Thanks.

Hi,

Search for "Schardt" on here. There's lots to read about this on here.

Here's a link to the interview Jill had with Dr. Schardt:

http://prohealth.com/library/showarticle.cfm/ID/2498/T/Health/searchtext/

My doc has been using it for over 6 months now. He says that he's discharging lyme patients.

He's taking it himself and is doing very well.

I finally was convinced yesterday to try it.

He's doing it a bit differently than Schardt and he's found some other stuff out.

He's starting me on 50mg a day for 10 days. Then 100mg for a month. Then 200mg a day for a month. That will be followed by 1 month of bacteriacidal abx.

I think he wanted me to take the 200 mg. right away but he thinks that I'm afraid of that. I'm going to call after I'm done the first 10 days and ask if I can make it 10 more days at 100mg then bump it up to 200mg after that.

He says that some people don't respond unless that stay on a no sugar/low carb diet.

He also says that some people need to remain on a maintenace dose of diflucan. He's found that it ranges between 1 pill every 5 days to 1 pill every 15 days.

To determine the interval, he has people go without until they start feeling a little down then has them take it 2 days prior to that. If you don't feel bad after stopping you're done.

So, not exactly Schardt's protocol but very close. Since my doc is working with 600-700 patients right now, it seems he's in a position to learn more than Schardt figured out with 60 patients.

I was worried that my Bartonella has never been addressed with abx. He said that he's got Bart and it's working for that too.

He also said that diflucan was first created to treat AIDS patients with fungus in their brains. His point was that it also crosses the BBB.

It's supposed to be antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and antilparasitic.

I asked about probiotics and my supplements and he said to continue with them. I take mag, calcium, B's, colostrum, CoQ10, and others (can't remember right now).

Hope this helps,

Corgilla

Corgilla, this was helpful for me to know - I am doing the Diflucan treatment.

What do you do for liver detox? Can you do that while on Diflucan?

Thanks,

Hi June,

Ah, good point. Liver detox. Back to the milk thistle. I also take Cholestyramine which does a lot of detox.

A couple of app'ts. ago, my doc was telling me about the protocol and I mentioned the liver issues. I forget his answer exactly but it had to do with the drug being safe for babies. He also said something else that made the liver issues trivial but I can't remember what it was.

He took a baseline liver panel and will retest after 1 month.

They use diflucan for liver transplant patients to prevent fungal infections from the surgery. It can't be *that* toxic to the liver, IMO.

All the abx I've been taking also have liver warnings so it's just par for the course, IMO again.

The label says that it can cauase liver problems in people who have liver conditions.

Wish me luck,

Corgilla

Hey Corgilla,

That's interesting that he says that it is getting his Bart also. Do you know what he is basing this on? Does he have lesions from, or some other definate Bart symptoms that are improving? Thanks

There is an intertesting article in the lastest issue from Lyme times about the diflucan protocal..Page 9.
It's the one with the snowman on the cover.

You can join lyme times for as little as 15$ (for special needs).I look forward to these issues because they report some of the latest finding out of lyme conferences, patient issues ect..

In 2004 they devoted an entire issue to Insurance Issue" .And also a entire issue in 2005 to "Children's treatment Issue"

back issues of the Lyme Times may be viewed at :

My LLMD told me he had a patient who was very ill who improved loads on this protocol. I have been sceptical, but there may be something to it.
