Just found out a couple of days ago that I tested positive for lyme through Igenex. I've read criticism about Igenex, but was wondering if it is still safe to say that I do in fact have lyme? It's crucial in my case b/c I'm pregnant and my LLMD wants to start me on Amoxil so the baby won't get it, too. Has anyone been on Amoxil while pregnant? Should I just ignore the criticism about Igenex? (I was so relieved to find out I had a diagnosis) Thanks!

Hi sebastian!
Yes, you can ignore the criticism about Igenex. Based on those criticisms, the regulatory agency in California inspected Igenex. Igenex PASSED with flying colors.
Somehow, those news articles failed to follow-up with that information. It's so much more newsworthy to report the bad stuff.
Igenex catches more positive Lyme cases because they use 2 strains of bacteria in their test, while most labs use only one.
It sounds like you have symptoms also. If it were me, I would get on antibiotics to help ensure a healthy newborn. Sounds like you are being a good mother already to want to protect your child.
Congratulations, and best wishes, Shaz

Thanks so much! I had no idea they were inspected and passed. You're right about people only reporting the bad stuff. I have has a lot of symptoms now for 2 1/2 yrs. and have been convinced that it was lyme. I just wanted to be sure since I would have to be on the antibiotics while pregnant... I wouldn't be so worried if it was just me taking them.... Thanks again. Kristen

So glad you're checking this out. You're definitely on the right track - positive LD test from an excellent lab & your dr recommends antibiotics to protect your baby.
If your dr has not done so, please have him/her consult with Dr J, the Lyme Pediatrician in New Haven, CT. He will advise about the treatment you need to protect your baby. The key is to be sure the dose is adequate. I'll send contact info for Dr J in PM.
(Edited to add: Personal Message sent to you.)
You probably know that the antibiotics (abx) kill the good bacteria along with the bad bacteria. Be sure to take enough high quality Acidophilus to replenish the good bacteria in your system & prevent overgrowth of yeast.
Print "Diag Hints & Treatment Guidelines..." www.ilads.org/burrascano_0905.html It's 33 pages of excellent info on all aspects of Lyme & several co-infections. It's like a Readers' Digest version on Lyme disease.
pages 25 & 30 give info about Probiotics.
Be sure to have at least 2 hours between abx & acidoph - before & after - or it won't be able to help you.
Nutrition - Eat very nutritious foods & try to eliminate as much sugar & starch as possible.
Drink lots of water to flush out toxins. I was told to put a squeeze of lemon juice in the water to help maintain the acid balance in the body.
So glad that you're getting proper medical care. When is your baby due? Keep in touch & let us know how both of you are doing. We care!!
