I'm taking 2 Bactrim DS 2x a day.
I was told you have to take another antibiotic with it - like doxy or something.

Does anyone know why? Why can't Bactrim be used by itself?

Could y'all tell me, if you ARE taking Bactim DS, what else you're taking with it?

Thanks

minocin 100mg twice a day

are you really taking 4 DS a day? I am only taking 2. Are you sure they aren't single strength?

Yes - I really am taking 2, twice a day and they ARE Bactrim DS. I thought it seemed a bit high and was going to ask on here what dosages people are taking.

Funny you mention minocin with it 'cause that's what I decided to use at the moment. Doctor suggested doxy but I've always found it pretty useless for me. I'm taking 1 Minocin MR (modified release)a day - 100mg.

I've been back and forth trying to decide whether to use the minocin or clindamycin.

I took Bactrim DS with Rifampin for Staph and Bartonella. I only took two a day. What are you taking it for? That might make a difference in what you use with it, and the doseage.

There's some recent post about Dr H (I think) using double doses of Bactrim. I never took more than two DS a day.

I found coupling it with Biaxin, then with artemisinin gave the most benefit.

Hey lou...I thought you weren't getting treated anymore...If you got bactrim good for you.

Lost my lyme doc, don't have a new one at this point. Going to try for Dr. B when he reopens for new patients, if I can last that long. Going to run out of meds. PCP let me continue with bactrim and mino a couple more months but think she is going to conk out on me before I find a lyme doc.

Playing the waiting game with this abx combo, the last one left. It stirred things up, as in herx, so that got my hopes up. But I am not sure what is causing the muscle wasting and whether the current meds are going to do anything about this symptom, which developed even when on various oral combos for the last year. Don't know what this means. More IV, or IM instead of orals? Autoimmune? Viral? I am stumped and think it needs a big gun in lyme to tackle it. Big gun, as in Dr. B, or someone else willing to handle the worst.

Have got valtrex sitting in the closet, prescribed for me some time ago but I wasn't sure the doc was operating on a good theory, so haven't taken it. But I have heard people say (some people anyway) that they felt better on anti-virals. Assuming maybe these were either opportunistic viruses hanging around waiting for the immune system to be distracted. Or another possibility might be the deer tick virus, also known to be in Ixodes ticks along with lyme etc. But no one seems to be getting excited about it. We are not exactly in enlightened times for TBDs and I doubt the officials would welcome another complication in the lyme story.

Long answer for a short question, charlie!
