I'm going in tomorrow for repair of my mitral valve. I have severe regurgitation.
Problems started about 5-6 years ago at the same time my lyme/ms symptoms began. Of course, with a negative lyme test I was diagnosed with MS and wasted five years. Wasn't diagnosed with lyme until this August.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Any advice?

I have MVP, but no surgery has been suggested.

Oh my. Please check back in with us when you get home, OK? My regurgitation on my MVP has gone from mild to "moderate", whatever that means!

My husband has been told he will need MVP repair within the next few years, but he will also need an ablation for atrial fib.,and both surgeries can only be done together in a few locations nationwide right now, so we are holding out as long as we can.
He has moderate MVP regurgitation now, and an enlarged left atrium, a borderline enlarged right atrium, atrial fib., and aortic prolapse with calcification, probably due to the Warfarin they have him on.
Because of this, he has been forced to go back to school to learn a new career and give up the job he loves. His MVP is the genetic type.
Because he normally does hard, physical work, he will need a minimum of eight weeks off work, another reason we are putting it off. I hope you are not in that situation, or have support elsewhere.
I also have MVP with mild regurgitation, as well as mild regurg of the pulmonary and tricuspid valves. My Cardio thinks mine is due to Rheumatic fever, but I believe it was Lyme, because that is when it appeared.

Hi, My mother has had surgery on her valve's twice now. She will have to have another surgery within
the next couple of years. It is a very scary surgery and she was in the hospital for about a
week each time. They do this type of surgery all the time and there is nothing to worry about. You
will be really tired for a while after the surgery but you will regain your strength. You will get
through this fine. Don't worry and let us know how you are doing?
