I've always liked peanut butter a great deal. However, in the past several years (since I've learned that I have Lyme Disease and have been treated for it) I have more or less craved it!!! At this point, I eat about 1 lb per week (no, I'm not a whale either! I work out a lot and stay in great shape - the PB doesn't seem to have much of any kind of an effect on my weight).

I also crave various types of refined carbs but I do my best to avoid them as much as possible. I realize that I most likely have an entrenched candida infection and have been doing what I can to treat it for about one year now (been off Abx for nearly 9 mos).

Does anyone think the PB cravings are just another sign of a candida problem or is there more to this that I don't understand? Please fill me in if you have any insight or similar experiences to share!!

We crave what we NEED. Figure out what nutrients are IN peanut butter. "Google" peanut butter contains...

The U.S. sends peanut butter and powdered chocolate milk to Africa...think about WHY.

Chocolate milk now in the news recently with re: to the Olympic athletes benefitting from it before competing...better than other electolyte drinks.

Duh!

Oh Yah. I eat alot of peanut butter- but only the natural (just ground up peanuts- oil intact).

If your eating that much (and I do too) don't buy the processed peanut butter with partially hydrogenated oils- you get no benefit from that type of oil... except the convenience of not having to mix up the natural.

Smuckers is a nice brand- chunky or smooth.
Yummmmmmmm

I always buy and eat the SKIPPY Natural PB (contains NO Hydrogenated oils). It tastes like "regular" PB and is even totally creamy with no bad "stuff" added to it (other than a small amount of sugar (3 g per serving). Give it a try, it's great!!!

Marnie,

thanks for the idea about looking into the ingredients that PB contains and the possibility that my body may need some of them.

That is an unusual craving.

Marnie,

I'd like to think that my cravings are because I NEED the stuff I crave. But, is there a NEED excuse for craving chocolate, bread, sugary snacks?? I hope there is, then I have an excuse to allow myself those things, but I doubt there is anything in those 'foods' we need.

I'm a peanut butter lover too. I always have some on low carb toast before my workout.

Another nut butter I've fallen in love with is cashew butter. I know it isn't as good as almond butter but I love it! When I need a snack I get a spoonful of it and its very filling and delicious.

I find it in the health food section of most grocery stores. The brand I love is by Maranatha.

I read this could be a yeast symptom. I will try to find the website for a reference.

I thought peanuts were bad for us lymies.

I would switch to almond butter.

now let me go try and find that link

I am not sure that I agree that we crave what we need. We often crave foods that cause candida, etc. I generally have read that the things that you crave are often the things that cause problems and/or that the body has some type of negative reaction to.

hmmmm differing views on this craving issue... from what I've read online, it seems that the PB craving could be due to a Magnesium deficiency.

Yes magnesium. But I think the Zinc is why I have always liked/needed it. I wonder if zinc lozenges would be beneficial for lymies' brains?

Yes I have had this,..... funny that I read the title of this post and didnt think this was strange at all.

At my WORST I would sit down in front of the TV and eat a whole,, or most of a jar of peanut butter.

Now I think that I might have developed and allergy to this as I have done it for years.

I dont feel well after eating peanuts any more.
And the peanut butter its self is loaded with SUGAR!

Sugar is a no no, once in a while o.k.
but once its all the time I feel like S**t

Peanut Butter really isn't loaded with sugar!! Look at the amount per serving -- the kind I eat, has 3 grams per serving and that's for 2 whole tablespoons!!! (a decent sized amount). You could eat the whole dang jar and not get much more sugar than you would get from a can of Coke (which is a fair amount I do understand).

I totally crave peanut butter and my yeast is under control (when yeast was bad I craved white bread and crackers)

I believe that your body craves what it needs. I crave peanut butter, carrots, green vegetables etc I eat of lot of soups and stews.

But peanut butter is the main thing I crave, eat it out of the jar with a spoon.

How weird! I thought I was the only one.

I will just say that pregnant women often crave what they need. I have heard of pregnant women eating dirt because they were missing some mineral.

When I was 5 months pregnant with my first child I called my mom in tears--"Momma, I want a beer!"

My mom said, "Honey, beer has nutritional values--you drink a beer!" I have never drunk beer except on very rare occasions--that is the last time I remember having one.

Of course now I can't drink period...

That said, I am eaten up with yeast and crave sugar like there is no tomorrow. I had corn totillia chips for lunch today--I know that is a carb and sugar--but I haven't had actual sugar for a whole week!

I'm kinda proud!
