The March 2006 issue of Consumer Reports has a very good article on Doctor Records and the HIPA Laws. These laws may not be strong enough! The article is short but somewhat disturbing. TG

Could hackers change your medical information in your electronic file, possibly causing health problems or inappropriate medical responses? ie Low Blood sugar vs High Blood sugar.

In principle, I supppose hackers could do that. However, it is highly unlikely to ever occur because 1) it's extraordinarily difficult to break into these kind of systems from the network and 2) it's just no fun for the hackers (i.e., the impact is so low it's not worth their effort, IMO.)
Just ask yourself this question: How often have hackers been able to get into banking systems and create havoc?
