Good day! My 17 yr old son has been on iv rocephin (stopped b/c caused gall stones) and IV clafrin (stopped b/c of low white blood cell count). Are these problems normal? Any suggestions as to what we should try next? He's also on ciprofloxacin, plaquenil & zithromycin. He's been off everything for a month to get his blood levels back to normal. We hate to keep going with the iv meds if they cause more harm than good! Hope someone out there can help us out! thanks [hi]

Sorry to hear of the troubles. I only was aable to do 5 wks. of IV Rocephen due to developing gallstones. Since then have been on various oral protacals and did make improvements with each new regime. Improced more on orals than the IV.

My best improvments have been on Minocycline & Diflucan. Although got I rid of fatigue while on Mepron & Zithromax for 3 months.

All of us are different but there are oral combos that can work, it's just finding the right protocal.

Holistic compliments help promote the healing.

Good luck and may your llmd find the right mix for your son.

gullstones are common with rocephin.

I had to get rid of my gullbladder due to the rocephin.

And I had an allergic reaction to clafrin so I really dont know alot about that one.

I do know that another iv med .... which I know is a pain in the but .....

is zinthromax ... I had it in a ball and I could put the ball in my pocket why it was infusing....

I could even go to the store while infusing.

It was much more convient than being tied to the post all that time.

You may want to ask your dr. about this option.

Best wishes [Smile]

Sorry to hear about your son's troubles. He should have been taking Actigall while on IV Rocephin. A good LLMD would have had him on that to prevent gallstones. Now that he has them, you can do a Liver/GallBladder Flush

What was the dose of Claforan? Does he have a central line? if so , you can do IV Zithromax I am pretty sure. Is he off everything including orals, or is he on those orals? You post was confusing!

Whoops, sorry about the confusion. At the moment, Greg is off of everything! As far as the gall stones, he was put on actigall after we found out he had gall stones. Luckily we went for a 2nd opinion and a 2nd ultrasound b/c the stones are gone and Greg didn't have to have surgery. Greg has a pic line still in. Waiting for the dr. to call and let us know what to do next. Sorry, can't tell you off hand the dosage of the claforan. It was 2x a day though. Has anyone applied for disability? Thanks for your help.

There are other IV drugs used, like doxycycline, primaxin, zithromax, etc.

Zithromax was good for me. I had the same problems with rocephin and claforan as your son. And was not taking actigall.

In additon to orals, there are intramuscular injections -- shots -- like bicillin. However, if he already has a picc line, he might want to use it, rather than take it out and then maybe put it in again later.

Still would not rule out the rocephin. Son should have been on what wildconder said. We used Urso ( same thing) husband done well over a year of iv rocephin no problems with stones but took his Urso faithfully.
