I was on Rifampin for 4 1/2 months for Bartonella and a Staph infection. The first few days were rough, with dizziness, bad headaches, chills and sweats, but after that things calmed down and went back to what is more normal for me, and I did pretty well on it.

I had bad shortness of breath, fatigue, cognitive issues, and pain, all of which improved while on it, but I still needed to switch to Cipro to finish up the Bartonella.

Nancy,

I've been on rifampin now for about a month to treat Bartonella.

I've had some of the same symptoms you, firecop and riversinger.

For the first two weeks, the headaches were absolutely excruciating -- to the extent that nothing took care of the pain.

I also had a LOT of dizziness; several of the episodes were pretty scary. I was just trying to get out my pills for the next day, and the whole room started to swim.

The dizziness didn't last more than a few minutes each time, but it was intense.

All this seemed to lessen the third week, and now, I'm feeling quite a bit better. I haven't had dizziness for three or four days, and the headaches, when they happen, aren't so horrible.

When I started taking the rifampin, my LLMD also had me take IM vitamin B complex. I think that's done so much for my energy level.

Hope these feelings also start to shift for you soon.

Andie

awhile ago I was on it with something else (sorry been on to many meds to remember what although I think it may have been biaxin)

My dr. put me on it to cover bart. just in case ...

even though I tested neg.

The combo helped some for a little while then plateaued.

I dont really remember having any side effects from it...

Best wishes [Smile]

Rifampin easily crosses the BBB, so it's bound to cause a lot of neuro symptoms while it gets into the brain.

I was on rifampin for what seemed like ages and all throughout it, I had dizziness, headaches, vertigo, fatigue, pain in the back of my legs when walking up stairs ( burning actually), and severe lung pain.

It took about four months before all that tamed down for good. In the second month, it was like taking water, in the third month it hit me all over again.

Hang on, rifampin is TOUGH, but its VERY effective. At least it was for *ME*
