My llmd has just told me that he is putting me on fluconazole for a 30 day run. 200 mgs. a day and nothing else.
have any of you done this or had luck with this? For those of you that take fluconazole, how do you feel on it, i know that i need some labs in a couple of weeks but did it do you in or what,

Hi,
I've taken it for 30 day periods before for Candida. Did not feel anything much at all one way or another.

I take Flucanazole when I need it but I only take one and then I don't take it for at least two days after that. I am told it gradually works and takes 24 hours to release into your system.
I was told not to take it everyday but then again I take a really good probiotic. They now make a probiotic that you don't need to keep refrigerated and can take it right along with your antibiotic. How convenient for us Lymies.

PB8 doesn't need refrigeration....but are you talking about some other brand?? I've never heard of one you could take at the same time as your abx since the abx will kill out the good bacteria.
DJ....There is some talk that Diflucan can be used against Lyme itself. I really doubt that idea.
You can do a search here to find the past articles and discussion on this treatment.
At any rate, you'll benefit from it since almost everyone taking long term abx has some amount of yeast in their system.
I've taken it for months at a time with no ill effect. Just be sure to get your blood work done regularly.
Keep us posted on what it does for you!
[PS, you may herx, but the herx would most likely be from the yeast die-off]

The Pharmanex one does not need refrigeration either, and you take only one a day (I am not using that brand)

Be careful not to take it with Biaxin, erythromycin, or SSRI's, which lead to toxic build up in the bloodstream. There may be other drugs that don't mix well with fluconazole, check with your pharmacist. It has to do with the CP450 enzyme pathway in the liver...

More than once I've tried Flucanazole for at least a month. Each time it reduced inflammation in my voicebox area, but unfortunately it did little for my other symptoms. No doctor had been able to explain why there was some success, but I may have figured it out.
The MP folks say the -azole meds can inhibit the body's handling of vitamin D. Subsequently, I was found to have very abnormal vitamin D ratios, which the MP attributes to infection and inflammation.

"PB8" You can find it at any good health food store or online at www.vitacost.com [it's WAY cheaper at vitacost]
PS.. I use PB8 but I still keep it in the refrigerator. At least you can travel with it though without really worrying!

I looked at a brochure in the waiting room of my new doc and it talked about a probiotic called "Florastor". Its not acidophilus but a non-pathogenic (good yeast) Its only temporarily resident in the intestines and works even if you take it with antibiotics, unlike other bacterial probiotics such as acidophilus. It is really used to treat antibiotic diarrhea, bloating and gas. Its even safe for children and does not need refrigeration. In addition, it strengthens your immune system. DJ I take a probiotic from immunesupport.com called Jarro-Dophilus EPS and it does not need to be refrigerated. I do keep mine in the fridge, but I don't think you have to.
Lydie Are you sure you can't take Diflucan with Erythromycin. I asked my pharmacist and they said you could. Maybe I'd better check with another pharmacy!!

i was only on 100 mg. I felt great on it...lots of my symptoms went away. numbness mostly went away and i believe it is what allows me to drive now. It may make you tired.
Im still on it now along with my abx.
my llmd said it is rare to have liver problems while on it.

I was advised to take Florastor, but then found out that you cannot take it with Diflucan or Nystatin as it will immediately kill the 'good' yeast (saccharomyces Boulardii).
I have, a few times, got a weird short-lived sudden tickly cough after taking Diflucan, like a slight twitch in my lungs. Doesn't last long and I have worried it was an allergy starting, so now I skipped the Diflucan for the last 3 times. (still take the Nystatin daily). Does that sound like an allergy to Diflucan with a weird cough on it's own?

Probably more like you have a resistant strain of some Yeast Species - and the drug only keeps the population down.
IMO- Vit D doesn't have anyhting to do with symptoms coming and going while on Fluconazole (especially for the duration of 30 days).
