ok, my advice, for what it's worth: find a new lyme doc ASAP who will treat for active infection instead of giving up on you and just trying to mask symptoms... (i don't know dr I, and don't mean to sound dismissive, but....i do think pain control is critical... but so is treating the infections, supporting the immune system, and keeping the toxins coming out of the body via detox and organ support.

there are several really, really good docs in your state. (i.e. Dr L, Dr B, etc) who are pretty darn determined and keep trying, even with the hardest patient. i guess i'd start with them.

then i'd' do all kinds of research in alternative, herbal, & supportive therapies to supplement their treatment. read all gigi's posts, read steven buhner's book Healing Lyme, etc.

i'm so sorry that you have to deal with this, plus all the insurance issues. it's so hard to be a patient, advocate, researcher, etc etc all at the same time.

and please understand - i don't mena to sound like a know-it-all.... me and my family are certainly still strugling with all this. but you asked for advice, so i took the bait...

very best of luck to you,
flossie

You definitely need to keep looking for a dr with a more progressive outlook on lyme....one who won't give up on a patient who is still suffering.

You can post in Seeking a Doctor here on Lymenet or send me a private message and i'll give you some names.

I'm sorry you are still so ill.

I would take the above advice and see a new Lyme doctor. Email me if you need a name for NY.

As a lyme patient my advice would be to find a new llmd....

I have been with mine since 2001 and he has never given up on me....

I would be lost if he did.

I was in pain management while being treated for lyme disease.... and I think that that id ok...

We have to be able to try to function somewhat with the pain we have....

But I would find a new llmd right away.

Best wishes [Smile]

Mary,

I agree with others that you don't want to stop Lyme treatment. But, I think it might be a good idea to see a pain specialist along with an LLMD.

It doesn't have to be one or the other. If you don't get pain under control, it's much harder to get better. Pain causes high stress on your immune system. A good pain specialist can help you find the right meds.

That said, it's hard to find a pain specialist who believes in the type of lyme treatment many of us use. But you don't need the doctor to agree with your other treatment if the doc still gives it all to help you control pain. That's what I did. I couldn't function without my pain control regimen.
