Probably a stupid question, but why is it that major hospitals, teaching institutions, etc. are not up to date on Lyme testing? Why are only 2 labs able to accurately identify the culprit?
And...are there any other reliable labs outside of the USA?

In my experience, teaching hospitals are sadly closed minded about LD. Last summer, when I first really "got sick", i.e., my sx were so bad that I was hospitalized, I went to one of the two major teaching hospitals, thinking that would be where the most enlightened and up to date medical minds would be, and with only a couple of exceptions, found exactly the opposite.
Their standard of labs is Quest. I don't know if that's bec Quest has been there forever, if the MDs have stock in the company, if they get great perks from Quest for their business, it's quick and easy, or what.
Their view of LD is so shortsighted and limited...
Reasons given to not test me for LD:
"It's very rare around here" "The test isn't very accurate", so why waste our time or your money on it, in essence. "I don't believe in chronic Lyme disease"
I don't know if there are good labs available outside the US. Be happy that we have a couple of good labs available here.
Do what you can to educate your Dr.s.

They never have been and I predict they never will be. Sad but true.

i just want to add. Through quest for whatever reason they only ran an IGG on me. Not IGM. Probably because they see the test as the same.
This is just one example of a test ordered by a duck!!!! he should have looked and known and said wait a sec where is IGM.
