My wife looked at me the other day and freaked out..."You look horrible".
My eyes have sunken in and the skin around them is dark. Now, this coincided with me coming down with this nasty virus/flu that I have now had for 5 days. So, maybe its just being sick on top of being sick.
But, it is rather disconcerting. I am certain that I am and have been very, very well hydrated. So, thats not it.
I also switched from Amoxicillin to Levaquin about 4 weeks ago, which is totally kicking me. And, just to confuse things further, my LLMD just had me switch from Ketek to Doxy, and I took my frist pill the night before we noticed my eyes. But I am only just ramping up...1 pill/day right now. Seems strange that would be it, so soon.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any insights into this symptom...a little scary (looking). Posted by shazdancer (Member # 1436) on :
I've seen this symptom (the "raccoon mask")in a lot of Lyme patients. I think it was Dr. j who said it was pretty typical in children, as well.
I don't know if it specifically disease-caused, or if it secondary due to fatigue and not getting enough sleep at night. Or at least, not enough sleep for someone whose body is fighting a severe infection.

and scroll down to the group photo. Check out the raccoon eyes on some of the participants (Annie's may be eye makeup in part, but check her mom's eyes).

Raccoon eyes can also be caused by adrenal gland fatigue ..also thyroid and dehydration..due to lyme.kt

Oh my gosh, that is weird, my daughter wakes up looking like that every morning. It was funny to see a "class picture" full of them.
