Hello.....I've been told by several people lately about magnesium. You know how you forget about certain remedies or vitamins as something that may be useful and then it is brought to your attention again?

Well, I remembered that many of my symptoms are low magnesium symptoms so the only type I could find at the drugstore was magnesium oxide. I bought it and have been taking it for several days. Yesterday I was extremely weak and now the weakness has gone to my ankle and foot.

Anyway, I was just looking up magnesium oxide and the site made it sound more like a drug with all the precautions and warnings not to take more than your doc advises. It also said NOT to take it with tetracyclines...which is one of the meds I'm on. Has anyone else heard this? Are there other types that do not interfere with doxy?

Geez....what a complicated life this is. Sometimes I say to myself we shouldn't have to be this wrapped up in our health but it seems as if everyone is. It seems that one of people's main activities are doctor visits.

My son's llmd said you can take magnesium with tetracyclines just has to be away from it...like a few hours because the tetracycline binds with the magnesium....

Thanks for that. I'm glad to know that together they do not form some sort of bad reaction. I will be sure to take them separately

I take tetra and magnesium but never together. If I dont take at least 1200mgs of magnesium per day my pain level soars so I make sure I get it.

When I switched to the tetra the constipation it caused is just unbelievable so I changed y magnesium from glycinate to oxide hoping to get things running better. It had little effect on the constipation.

I take the tetra 2 times a day and try to do it 12 hrs apart. The magnesium and calcium I take at least 2 hrs but aim for 3 hrs on either side of the tetra.

example

5am tetra
8am mag-calcium with breakfast
1pm mag-calcium with lunch
5pm tetra
6pm dinner
bedtime more calcium magnesium on empty stomach

I follow this same 2-3 hrs rule for taking any kind of antibiotic and calcium magnesium just to be safe

Oxide??? I think that's the wrong direction. You might try liquid Magnesium Citrate (sold at most pharmacies). This form is HIGHLY bio-available. At the right dosage this is used for constipation. I would try little doses (small capful) 4-5x day. Increase slowly as needed.

Godspeed.
