I am going to be taking Biaxin in a month or so. I wanted to get some feedback on the medicine and how you reacted with it.
So far til date, I have no probs with abx. Yes, I had herxes, and still do, only they are not so bad all the time now.
Thanks,

500mg 2x day of the generic for last 6-7 months with good results. Doesn't seem to be working as quite as well now and thinking about upping dose slightly. Taking with Bactrim DS. Good ABX for being outdoors in sunny weather because it does not photosensitise. Also easier on stomach and dosing schedule than Doxy.

BostonLyme-
I just recently started on Biaxin in the last week or so after treating with doxy for 3 months and Ceftin for 8 months on an inadequate dosage.
I was only taking for 4 to 5 days and I started to herx. I was on two pills and I am supposed to work up to 4 pills a day (2000 mg).
After 5 days my LD said try to go up to three and then after another 5 days go up to four.
Well I can tell you that I tried to go up to 3 pills and started herxing like crazy.
Even on 2 pills I notice a difference in my pain level after I take it. Take with a meal and make sure you are taking good bacteria. During the herx, depression seems worse even if you are taking an anti-depressant.
Thats just my personal experience and I have only been taking it for a week. I feel like I might have a classic case of Babesia. Hope this helps.
For those of you who are interested, I use a interior trampoline which aids in flushing toxins out of your lymphatic system. The jumping aids in the flushing process and I have heard that cancer patients sometime use these.

It was the first drug to begin helping me. I would recommend Biaxin DS. I took it for a yr and a half.

I just started biaxin xl (2tabs once a day) after 4 hour I had a crushing headache...still have it today,
I also feel the depression setting in again (was on this before w/depression)
Don't know if depresion is reason to stop it. Biaxin crosses into cells. Taking plaquinil makes it more effective but I am only on biaxin.
Best

I took it for a while. What can I say? Tetracykline has helped me much more than Biaxin.

I've been on biaxin xl 3 days on, 2 off; then go on doxycycline for 3 days on, 2 off; then go bac to biaxin again.
I have to use a calendar for this to kep straight. For awhile I had 3 pills that were being pulsed!
I've not had any reactions.

It was the one drug that helped me the most. Good luck, and I hope it helps you as much as it helped me.

So far so good after 2 weeks. The LLMD wanted me to get an EKG after 10 - 14 days on biaxin. Just had it done and it was normal.
I take the biaxin with plaquinil. I seem to be improving steadily since starting 2 weeks ago. The twitches have decreased further, almost gone except for an occsaional one in the calves.

I had very bad pain in my thigh muscles, quads and hamstrings, and in my feet on Biaxin. I think it was herx, possibly Bartonella.

Hey guys-How long can a herx last? Its been not quite a week on the Biaxin and I still feel bad.
I am thinking that I am just herxing but in someones elses experience how long did it take for you to start to feel better.
My chest pain is not as severe and my twitching is not as much except much more prounouced when I lay flat at night. I do see some improvement but not much.
My chest muscle is still very sore on the right, I cough when it starts to get tight (Shortness of breath) and I am so extremely tired. I have not been able to sleep on my own since 03/08/06 and take Ambien to help with that.
I tried taking Melatonin and sleeping on my own but it was horrible. I was up all night and then it made things worse.

Hmmm, In the beginning I was started on Doxycycline for almost 2 weeks which gave me too much yeast problem, then switched to Azithromycin for about 2 weeks until my PCP switch me to Biaxin when I still needed more meds. I was on that for about 3 weeks.
For nearly two months I felt pretty lousy and finally started to feel better after the 3rd week on Biaxin, then the pharmacy accidently stopped my refill in which I didn't get any for two weeks and my symptoms started to slide back quickly.
Had another visit with my PCP and told him about it. He said that I was supposed to still be on Biaxin cuz he ordered a refilled, so he checked with my pharmacy and found out that they had a mix-up. So he got me back on it again.
I've been back on Biaxin for about 5 weeks now but not feeling as much relief as I did during the first few weeks. I don't know if my body became immune to Biaxin after being taken off for a couple weeks, then back on it again.
I also learned something very interesting when I attended a recent LD Support Group meeting, where a LLMD was there giving a presentation about lyme. The LLMD gave a lot of information about the symptoms and different types of treatments.
There are a lot of other possible co-infections that one can get with lyme such as babeiosis, bartonella, erhlerich, BB, and others. I saw the the possibility that I may have bartonella, 'cuz one symptom that really stood out was soreness in the soles, esp. in the morning and so forth.
Anyway, in relating to Bartonella, I was told that being treated on Biaxin alone would not be enough, but it would be best to also take Doxycycline while taking Biaxin.
