I have just been perscribed fluconazole generic for difflucan 200 mgs. a day for thirty days. I would love to get any feedback about your experiences.

I know about getting blood work, and that it can be hard on the liver but what about the herx, i know that you can have a yeast die off. but just wondering how it made you folks feel.

Thanks for the input, DJ

After the 1st dose of difucon, the next morning I woke up and felt like I was hit by a mac truck. My intestines also had some moving burning spots in it. I only took four days worth. By the 3 day I felt better than I had in a long tme. A lot of brain fog cleared and some of my neuro issues in my legs settled way down. My yeast has been in check pretty much since, I only had to do a 2 day run a couple of weeks ago.

I've been on it and mino for quite awhile...I really like the combo. No problems with it but I do get the blood work done periodically to check. Doing 1 month on 2 weeks off now.

I call it the wonder drug. I firmly believe it is what allowed me to drive my car again.

The 3rd day i took it i got numbness (i used to get this after eating sugar) so i figured it was a herx dieoff...i also felt kinda tipsy and tired. the numbness was scary....but it passed in an hour.

It may make you tired that is one of the side affects.

after taking diflucan, my numbness is barely there..i can feel my legs when driving too.

Im now on cedax and diflucan together.

My LLMD said liver involvement is rare but tht is why he checks every other month.

I've been on it for a while. I first used fluconazole years before my lyme diagnosis, when I was dealing with recurring yeast problems.

That is when I first discovered a herx. I was very, very tired. Common symptom of yeast die off.

How long it lasts depends on how much yeast you have in your system and what other ways you are combatting yeast (diet, herbs, etc.)

I've been on it for 2 years now, ever since starting lyme treatment.

Fluconazole (Diflucan) cleared up one of my chronic inflammation symptoms, which for awhile made me think I was battling a yeast infection. That sent me on wild goose chase of sorts.

Only years later did I learn a side effect of fluconazole (and I think all the -azoles) is to interfere with the conversion of vitamin 25D to 1,25D, the same conversion that Lyme bugs apparently do to excess. This may explain why some Lymies derive some benefit from fluconazole.

Thanks.

Not only do I take it every day, I take a huge dose. I take 200mg twice a day. I get my liver enzymes tested monthly. My LLMD keeps close watch.

They've been slightly elevated the last few months, but nowhere near dangerous. And we think the increased levels might be related to muscle spasms I'm having in my digestive system, which may be causing problems with my pancreas, not liver. Fun, fun.

Thank you so much everyone for your input. I am going to start today. I guess i was just wondering about herx? I know it can cause a die off from yeast so i guess i will know in the next couple of weeks how it is working for me.

Does anyone know, is fluconazole a abx, or a fungl abx, and do you guys take with or without food?

Thanks again for all your help....DJ

its part of the Azole class...antifungal.

I take it without food....it doesnt upset my stomach.

Sometimes the pill melts in my mouth if i put it in my mouth while filling my glass of water.

Thanks can't, i hate to always ask all these questions but its like my doc, never expects me to ask any. I feel like i am a lab rat sometimes like an experienent. I know there is a method to the madness but, geeze before lyme i would only take an advil if my head was splitting and know i feel like a pill popper. DJ

If you have a yeast herx from diflucan, expect to be very, very tired. It hits fast, usually the next day for me. You may also have stiffness in your muscles.

I suggest drinking lots of water to help your body detox.

Also, if you are female, then localized yeast infection symptoms may arise for a day or two.

well i am no female but thanks for the heads up.
YOu always think of the nast HERX word, but considering it affects all of us differently, you would think i would stop trying to ask about it still......THanks DJ

Fluconazole has worked well for me with all yeast infection.

Intially when I take it i can experience a yeast die off. very similar to abx die off in my symptoms.

After the intical big die off, fluconazole can make me :over all tired and nauseated and can effect my appetite.

These are just my personal recations.

Make sure to talk over everything first with your LLMD.

I thought I already posted ... but I guess not...

If I have yeast diflucan(sp?) or lamisil (sp?)

kills the yeast but makes me herx....

for me this usually means the fatigue gets worse...

the worse the yeast was ... the worse the fatigue

sometimes the pain gets worse to...

If I was taking it solely to prevent yeast then nothing.... no herx no side effects.

Best wishes [Smile]
