I have been on Ketek and amoxicillian for about one month. My hip and knee pain is back! I thought Ketek was the wonder drug! Has anyone else experienced a plateau with Ketek? I previously was on doxy and I felt pretty good - hip and knee pain was gone. Can I switch month to month between the two?

maybe a herx? A change of abx will often stir up remaining keets.
I was on tetra for a long time and painfree. A month of ketek and I was herxing a agian. bummer.

I have been on Ketek since December. I had immediate relief with joint and muscle pain but my nerve pain has increased and continues to go up and down.
I just found out I have Babs and my LLMD said that until we treat that- just now starting Mepron- I won't get any further with the LD treatment.
I think that if you haven't been tested for co-infections that you should inquire about that.
Even if you have I think that treatment goes up and down. Depending on how long you have been infected it may take awhile. You may get ups and downs as the bugs get killed off.

I heard Dr. B. this past Saturday in MD and he said ketek went after deep lyme and the herxes were often long (3 weeks) & severe.

I definitely have found ketek to be a "wonder drug," but always in combinations. A long time ago, people used to describe Lyme combinations as including a cephalosporin, an intracelluar drug, and a cyst buster. For whatever the reason, this language seems to have fallen out of circulation. It was part of Dr. B's earlier protocols.
Macrolides were your intracellular, and you frequently took them with plaquenil. One of the "wonder" aspects of ketek was that it could be taken on its own. Someone else will no doubt come along and describe this in better detail.
If you believe this theory, then any macrolide would be taken to remove a form of Lyme that a cephalosporin couldn't reach. The image people used to use was that cephalosporin's knocking an outer cell wall off Lyme, sometimes killing the Lyme, and sometimes leaving behind a wall-less "L-form" that only succumbed to macrolides. The cyst buster was then taken to remove a dormant form of Lyme.
I found that ketek vastly improved the strength of omnicef, after having been on zithromax and plaquenil for two years with only minor improvement. It also has been useful in combination with rifampin for bart and mepron for babesia. It is not a drug I'd ever take on its own.
I never had good luck with amoxicillan, though this may be because of the presence of co-infections. Ceftin was my first cephalosporin.

Unfortunately in the beggining I herxed much heavier and for longer periods of time....
I have been on ketek since fall of 04 and I haven't plateaued yet.
ammoxicillin did not help me at all.
