hi everyone

I'm experiencing something very frightening. I've had this many times before it's just it's been real bad the last week or so.. It seems just as Im drifting off to sleep I jump out of my sleep with a gasp because it feels as if my heart has gotten to slow or has stopped and I jump up..

As I said i've had this on and off for years and always attributed it to anxiety because I do have bad anxiety disorder and can't ever seem to relax. Has anyone else experienced this and has your doctor told you what it could be?

It has been suggested to me to have a sleep study done. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Robyn,

Sorry to hear about this!-
My father had this in his mid forties-
He was very fit at the time and not overweight with no other health issues-

they attributed it to some sort of virus- but nothing was ever concretely determined

When he sat and read for long periods- or slept his heart would slow way down and occasionally skip a beat-

He regretted doing the stress test where one gets on a treadmill and they push you- because he believes that if it was viral this only made it worse.

He did have a pacemaker put in-
it was only used a few months and then the problem went away

He is now 66 and his pacemaker batteries have worn down and they have turned it off as it gets used so rarely

Very scary for you- and although I'm no dr- I think that having it monitered overnight would be a good idea!

Hope this helps some-
Sarah

Robyn,

I didn't mean to worry you about the pacemaker!-
You could have something completely different-

Potassium is supposedly very good for the heart-

You may try having a banana every day as they are a good source I believe-

I hope that this resolves soon for you-

by the way- what meds are you on-
When I was on Biaxin I had strange heart sensations and then later found out that I was slightly allergic to it...

Keep your spirits up!

I know how scary heart symtpoms can be...

I used to have palpatations (I was probaly around 25 or 26)

they scared the heck out of me....

They went away with treatment and its probaly been I am guessing around three years since I have had problems with the palpataions....

so the lyme didnt actually damage anything.

Have you had an ekg and an ecocardigram done....

I had both of them just to make sure their was no real problem.

Maybe you could ask your dr. about getting some tests just to check it out.

The sleep study sounds good but if it were me I would want more.

Best wishes [Smile]

Are you getting these sx while you're on abx?

I had this type of sensation before I was diagnosed. It scared me sh_tless. I had so many extreme sx like this that I was sure I would have died if I wasn't diagnosed and treated soon.

When you wake up, do you feel unable to move? Do you feel like you've stopped breathing or are barely breathing as well when it happens? That's how I'd feel.

These sx stopped for me after I started abx. What abx are you on and for how long?

I'm truly sorry to hear about this. I know how scary it is. I was sure I wouldn't live much longer, but I'm much better than I was, so there's hope.

Take care,

Patti
