the following is in another thread...it seems important enough to me to have it's own thread.

quote is from luvstoride-but she got it from somewhere else:

quoted e-mail]
".....I did want to pass on something that happened to me. I reacted to cipro
> (fluoroquinolone antibiotic) last spring with severe shoulder tendon pain.

> You warned me about the dangers of this family of antibiotics. Well, I had
> the same reaction when I tried the cat's claw herb (Samento and Prima Una
de Gato) that is being used for Lyme disease. It was SEVERE tendon pain
again.

> I researched it and found that quinovic acid glycosides are the basis for cat's claw AND the synthetic quinolones!! SO, no more of that herb for me!!

> Tendon damage and rupture are not things I want to mess with. Just thought I should let you know about this. Get well."

Wow, thanks. Just finished second round of Cipro for kidney infection and have had the most horrible tendonitis in my shoulder. That Rx is not kind to me. really makes me feel sicker. Saventaro (CC) also causes this pain.

I began taking Saventaro brand of cat's claw soon after I found this board.
No problems like this.

I'm now taking the Raintree cat's claw, on the advice from Stephen Buhner's book, "Healing Lyme."
No tendon problems.

Looks like it's true. I found this on the Samento website:

http://www.samento.com.ec/nutranews/story003.html

The results of research on Samento (TOA-free Chemotype Cat's Claw) ..... In addition, this Chemotype contains quinovic acid glycosides - compounds with strong natural antibiotic properties (the latest generations of conventional synthetic antibiotics ``Quinolones'' are based on quinovic acid glycosides), which further enhance the medicinal effect of Samento in fighting the infection.

Now that's really a surprise.

I seem to herx on cats claw and then feel better after it clears.

My LLMD said he doesnt think that the cats claw can make me herx. I then said, well is it that its kicking in the immune response and the immune system is in overdrive and thats creating that herx feeling.

He said yes possibly. So even he doesnt know it all, in fact far from it. He just knows enough about the impact of untreated LYME>
