My pharmacist mentioned awhile back that Ambien was due to be released in generic form in the near future. At the time, I didn't think to question him further. Has anyone heard anything about this? For BCBS in my state, this is a non-preferred drug and cost $50 a prescription. If generic, it will only be $10. Big savings. Was just curious if anyone else had heard this.
Thank you...

yes, i heard from my pharmacist that it was due to go generic this summer. she guessed that that's why ambien CR is being heavily advertised -- so they can continue to make big money off a slightly new form of the drug once they lose profits on the regular ambien.

Thank you. That's good news.

I went & looked at my pd receipts for THIS med.
Only one I found was after my deductible was met; so ZERO cost.
In Iowa, our tier is $5, $10, and $20; so at the most; I've paid $20 for ambien using your example.
Last week, I met my $250 deductible; so it's 9 months of free meds again! WHOOPIE.
