I am on Ketek alone after stopped Doxy+Levaquin, which seemed working.

From recent posts, it seems that Ketek+Levaquin is a bad combination, so I dare not to add Levaquin.

Then, what abx (or herbs) should I consider to add to address Bart ?

I suspected I had Bart, cause I have consistant pains from my soles, palms and buttocks when holding, standing or sitting.

I am still waiting for my co-infection tests.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Be well and be happy

Definitely sounds like you could have Bart. I thought Ketek was for Babs? Maybe Bart, too?

Don't go by the test if it's negative....they are like the Lyme disease tests....treat by symptoms. That's what a LLMD at the Hope to Heal Lyme conference told me.

Take care,
Susan

My LLMD recommends Zythromyacin for Bartonella. But, I'm sure there are others.

I did five months of ketek and rifampin for bart. So far, so good. I combine ketek and omnicef as Lyme maintenance, and use ketek with mepron and primaquine for babesia.

Bartonella,
Are you taking anything else or just ciprofloxacin? And how much of ciprofloxacin?

I'm on ceftin for Lyme and am starting my second month of rifampin for Bart.

No complaints so far, and it does seem to be helping. Both these abx, I'm told, cross the blood-brain barrier.

I hope you have success finding a combo that works for you.

Thanks very much everybody for the informative messages. I am a newbie here, these informations are very useful.

My LLMD prescribed Ketek 800mgx1 per day for 14 days then Tinidazole 500mgX2 per day for 14 days. The Dr said Tinidazole is for cysts.

Right now I am into Ketek for 9 days. Feel better, although slow.

During the first few days, I felt sicker. Before I was on doxy (~one month) and Levaquin (~4days) and getting better.

I hope Ketek would kick Bart. Who has a definite answer?

Thanks.

For the bart (specifically) I was on Levaquin until I had to stop because of the side effects.

Just today I got put on a combo of both Bactrim and Biaxin for the Bart. I think my LLMD said that this protocol was developed by Dr. Horowitz. But my tired lyme brain is foggy so I am not sure if I remember that right.

I was going to go on Cipro for the Bart but since I have no health insurance this way is muuuuch cheaper. So we'll see how it goes for the Bart with this particular protocol.

I don't think there is any definitive answer as far as what is the best tx for it -- there are different theories and diffrent people respond differently to different meds. Also depends on how long it has progressed and what other co-infections you have, etc.

Hey Dave -

After YEARS of lyme treatment .. . I was dx'd w/ Bart! Prior to the dx, I had been on Doxy, Zith, IV Claforen, IV Rocephin and Amoxy - all in various combos!

First tried Rifampin/Bactrim DS; then, IV chlorampheicol - which seems to have worked (or so we pray)!

After that, continued various lyme treatment and then Babs was dx'd!! This stuff is wicked!

Daughter child was dx'd w/ Bart also after several years of lyme treatment . . . Dr. J has her on Cipro / Zith combo!

Hope that helps u!
