I had an appointment with my MD yesterday. Besides my horrific swallowing disorder and the fact I'm 89 pounds now I am also having problems trying to sleep. For the past 2 weeks EVERYTIME I try and fall to sleep just as I"m drifting off I am woken up by jerking or twitching of one of my limbs.. Either my feet or my legs or my hands or my fingers. Sometimes it even feels like its my stomach or my chest.
My MD did and and EKG yesterday which came out fine and Tuesday I will have a 24 hour holter monitor.. He mentioned something about periodic Limb movement and he thinks that is whats waking me up because I told him about the jerking and twitching and my husband also added that I am constantly moving in my sleep.
I looked up on the internet and all I keep seeing is info on restless leg syndrome but it's not just my legs.. it's everything even my neck.
Does anyone else have this? WHat is it called? What has your doctor said and what is being done for you?
Right now my doc has me on Ativan 3 times a day and after the holter if that comes out ok he wants me to do a sleep study.
Has anyone else done one of these? What do they do to you?
Thanks for any help.

Hi there,
Sounds like what many of us experience with lyme. Happened to me for months before the abx kicked in.
Not sure how long you've been treated, but wanted to reassure you that what you are experiencing sounds like what many of us have experienced.
Unfortunately, regular docs have NO clue about any of these symptoms, and will try to diagnose each our problems. They just have no clue.
My opinion! Hope others will chime in.
Best,

Get taking complex vitamin B and magnesium and cq10 start at 2 at a time. Your nerves mylene covering is being eaten by spirochetes damaging the electrical flow basicaly your being short circuted.

Hey there lymetc... You are doing one more ativan than I used to... It will do nothing for what tree describes and is actually happening...your CNS is short circuiting.
I've been down the road your headed...EKG,Holter,Sleep study...all inconclusive and they told me I was taking too many drugs...which were prescribed...
Anyway...the mitral valve regurgitation did'nt show up on the halter monitor...found it thru echo cardiogram...
The sleep study...they hook you up and give you oxygen and see how weel you go from light to REM sleep...if you ever get there///
My sleep study got messed up cuz the doc gave me abx just prior to it and with the oxygen and cool temp in exam room I slept very well...
The jerking you awake is an innate response to not getting enough oxygen in your body...the bod stops breathing and the mind wakes it up so you can start breathing again....that is if you have sleep apnea...if it's lyme induced...refer back to tree's explaination...or a combination of the two...
good luck and not to worry...a lot of us get it and it subsides eventually....but may recurr mildly for a time.....zman

I would be so tired and as soon as I drifted off my body would "jump " and be awake. I would lie there feeling anxious . Then the fatigue and mental fog were worse because of insomnia. I actually thought I was dying. My Dr. said your a runaway train, we have to stop the train to see where we are at. This started with my doxy. I take ambien cr . I never took sleeping pills in my life {i am 50} but sleep is essential. Now I wake up with hot flashes {menopause} but dont have that anxious feeling and drift off peacefully. Don't be afraid to use the ativan.

That used to happen to me, but not as bad. It's gone now with Lyme treatment!

Is it restless leg type movement? My legs jerked & kicked...myo-kloonis. Lyme & lower back disc related. Try a herbal restless leg remedy with quinine...that helped me settle. Tonic water with quinine ( has sugar) I used to drink to help muscle spasms/twitches throughout the day.
Now with chiropractic care the last two weeks haven't had any incidences. I do take lots of magnesium & I take b vits.
