I was wondering if anyone has ever had a sedimentation rate test-
It's a blood test to measure how many cells have sunken to the bottom of a test tube.
It shows things like cancer, infection, auto immune-related inflammation.
I was in the hospital a few weeks ago with chest pains. I thought I had heart damage because of a strep infection they found in my blood. Turns out the strep was an old infection and i had no damage.
Anyway, the sed rate test they did, which i guess they did to check for strep (infection), was normal. But if i had lyme wouldn't the sed rate test have been abnormal?? Since lyme is an infection?
Maybe i am looking into this too much, but has anyone had one of these tests? i didn't even know i had the test until i got the bill from the hospital-- damn doctors don't tell you anything.

I don't really understand it but Lyme patients often have LOW sed rates. Mine is a 3!!!!

My daughter's was a 34. I've read a couple of articles. I think Dr. B's famous report says that 30 is normal, but our LLMD says 20 is normal.
Any other thoughts?

Jake and Jordan's SED rate was 1 for a long time. I think their LLMD said it was a sign of hypercoagulation.

Mine is like Lymetoo's...it was 2! I don't understand it, either. You'd think it would be high...

Well, I do have hypercoagulation.
Your C-reactive protein test may show inflammation....I don't know. Mine is normal, but I take mangosteen juice which lowers inflammation.

One of the things I've had consistently for decades since infection is a high sed rate. Not up in the 100's, which would indicate, say, cancer (per my MD), but 30-40. My doc also says this is a non-specific test and can rise up during a cold or if you stub your toe. But it is a sign or infection and/or inflammation.
Those low sed rates amaze me!!

could it be because the body doesnt see the lyme as an infection?
many of us have had this awhile and the lyme has adapted so it can hide from our immune system. Just a thought

For what it's worth, mine's a 4. They take blood from my PICC every week, and I get the results. It has been going down every week since I started treatment. The only thing I seem to be consistently low on now is red blood cells. Will see LLMD Thurs, have lots of questions! Jill

Hi, many times run low sed rate.
Which should be run on us on reg. basis, if they wanted to start connecting some of the dots.
Last time could barely get blood to flow. No problem with veins or getting to but if have few tubes to be taken they mention how long it takes.
Feel like times I could paint walls with my blood. Hmmmm, maybe of some use.lol
Very dark for drinking at least gallon water a day??
Think some things they would want to look further into.
I tell my doc, he grunts...Very Helpful Now say nothing, no use...

I just checked my SED rate from September 2005 it was a 1. I couldnt find it on my recent labs, not sure if my LLMD looks for it.
my arm is still brused even my elbow is brused from the holistic dr blood draw. The blood was very dark red too.

Went to LLMD and got blood test results from last month. SED is the same...34...but the ANA has reduced by 50% That's good, right? It sounds like the autoimmune is coming down.
The doctor said that he wants to back off the zyth and pulse it for a while to give my daughter's body time to restore itself. Old symptoms are coming back and he said they are caused by inflammation from an overworked system. So, now is the time to detox.
