Learned last weekend --- at a Dr. K. seminar

Healing may not be so much about getting better as about
Letting go of everything that is not you,
All the expectations,
All the beliefs,
And becoming who you are.

Not a better you, but a realer you.

We need to let go
To throw away everything that isn't us
In order to be more whole.

Rachel Naomi Remen

Take care.

Good quote. I read a book awhile back from that author about healing. I can not place the name right now, but it is worth reading. Just do a search under her name on the web and it will come up.

thanks gigi...this really resonates with me.

i'm struggling with who i am, now that i feel i've lost who i was

i'm struggling to find my new identity after 40 years of always being so secure with who i was:

strong, reliable, independent, problem solver, caretaker, organizer, director, physically active wife/mother/friend.

i liked who i was, and each and everyday mourn the loss of the old me

i hope to slowly discover the strength and beauty of the new me...but today i just feel lost and scared

I think GiGi makes a good point. With illnesses
like lyme, you need to be a chameleon to survive.
In other words, one may have to change and become
someone different than the person you were before
you became ill.

I agree. You can measure success differently with
this approach as well.

i love naomi remen and the book's name is "kitchen Table Wisdom"

one of the things that makes her so wonderful is that she has had chronic disease all of her life - chrone's disease and endured multiple operations for this. she knows what it's like to be a patient as well as how to treat patients in her role as a doctor.

do any of you remember her on Bill moyer's healing and the mind on pbs about fifteen years ago? She ran a program called commonweal in california for cancer patients.

she also has another book called, wisdom my grandfather taught me, or something like that.

she is truly amazing.
