It really hurts every time I do anything that involves bending back. Even lifting my leg backwards is difficult.

I take yoga and any of the moves that involve arching are practically impossible. And of course the balance poses are difficult.

Anyone else feel their spine is deteriorating?!
What to do. Does anyone get injections/shots to help. Thanks

I go to a chiropractor that found my spine was "corkscrewing" due to muscle spasms. It's helping as well as PT that he prescribed.

I used to have the excruciating pain you describe, one month in care and the PT for it and much better. I did yoga too and couldn't bend my legs at knee backwards and even lift legs up for staris became almost imppossible. I'm improving and plugging along.

It could be muscles and not the spine. I was in constant pain in my back, mostly upper back. The way I reduced pain was taking Flexeril (a muscle relaxer) every night and working with a physical therapist who specializes in myofascial release.

I did yoga once I was feeling better and now need to do it to keep my back from getting tight. I still take the Flexeril nightly, but am down to 10mg from 30mg.

Talk to your LLMD

Steroid injections can be a DISASTER for Lymies!! Be VERY CAREFUL. Other Lynies have reported bad reactions to those injections. MDs who give them rarely know how they affect Lymies.

hey tapestry

I also have spine/back problems with major pain.

I think lyme likes neck and back as a prime realistate property.

I had disc surgury 4 years ago and it touched off a major relaspe. Along with ice packing and steroids/cortizone shots locally.

Ice packing - BB loves a cold environment. A LLMD told me once that was the worse thing I could be doing.

I am still left with back pain. It seems worse when I am herxing.

The rx that helps me is val.& ultram.

In the natural realm-detox foot patches on the heel area and lately magosteen juice.( mangosteen has strong anti-inflammatory properties)

Glucosamine with MSM helps me too.

I wish I could still take motrim but that trashed my stomach years ago.

Moist heating pad ,epson salts soaks work well for temporay relief.

hope your back pain feels better soon.

and make sure to talk over anything you read here
first with your LLMD

Try visiting an osteopathic doctor that has extensive experience in cranial sacral therapy. One treatment stopped my severe spinal problems dead in their tracks for over a year.

Yes, also talk to the MD about options such as TENS, Vax-D, & Prolotherapy.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Foggy - Thanks for the heads up! I did get steriod injections before the diagnosis, and my face became really puffy and wierd. I am living proof unfortunately that it is a bad, bad idea to have this done with lyme.

If anyone has had TENs done please let me know what it is all about and if it did any good, insurance coverage, cost, or just anything would be really helpful. Take care [Smile]

Tap, I got a TENS unit with an RX from my MD. Ins co paid and it's very effective for my nerve pain. Worked so well, I gave the Perc and Vico a rest. Talk to your MD about it.

I used a TENS unit several years ago for back pain and it worked remarkable well. I highly recommend it!

You apply electrode patches to your back that are connected to the unit (which is small and can hook on a belt).

It delivers electrical impulses, which can feel quite pleasant, depending on how you adjust it.

AND it works quickly and (obviously) without any medication side effects to worry about.

I had a stiff, cracking neck back in 1993 when I first got sick.

In 2002 the same area that cracked and snapped earlier spontaneously herniated for no reason. I've never injured it.

It stopped hurting after a couple months and then hit me again in May 05.

I had a spinal fusion in Aug. 05 and have been a mess ever since. I think it caused a relapse.

Anyway, avoid surgery if you can.

Good luck
