Iontheprize kids - keep your eye on the prize,

Been a while. I don't drop in all that often . . . 12 months of Rocephin gave me about 7 months of decent living before the relapse became increasingly evident. I am such a jerky for not sticking with a follow-up plan. Instead, I waited for abx to clear to go get a spinal tap to look for "answers." Hah!

Here's the q:

Dr. J the pediatrician in CN uses Ceftin/Biaxin as I understand it, and surely he must have a good reason. Cettin cephalosporin - we know Donta like the Biaxin long term . . .

Dr. B - the main man - is rec'ing Ketek with Ceftin. But the Ketek really is unproven from a clinical trial and error standpoint - though we see some data that we like in terms of bacteriacidal concentration and stability in acidic environments.

So:
(1) What has been your experience with Ketek and Ceftin (how long on it, and what kind of results)?

(2) How about Ceftin/Biaxin? How long on it, and what kind of results . . .

Thanks for all your thoughts and best wishes. Atlanta is still a great place to be.

I don't know. I have relapsed quickly on Ketek.
At least for me it is not a miracle drug.

Areneli.

Are you sure that it is a relapse, or could it be that it is a herx because the Ketek is killing bugs that haven't been touched before? It usually takes around 3 months on it before improvement comes.

Still would like to hear people's thoughts - especially from those who have been on either combo . . . Thanks

My daughter is a patient of Dr. J. When she first was diagnosed with Lyme she was on Biaxin/Ceftin. After 9 months with some results he stopped Biaxin and switched to Ketek. Minocycline was added to the Ketek/Biaxin with great results.

Dr. J does not use just one combination. I am sure it is a case to case basis. Different things work for different people.

fatigued15: Did you mean that your daughter is now taking Mino/Ketek/Ceftin? You said Mino/Ketek/Biaxin and since I am planning a regime for myself I wanted to be clear. Thanks!!
