My LLMD prescribed in Plaquenil/Biaxin, I was on tetracycline for 2 months and couldnt tolerate it atall. I was wondering if someone had similar experience and Plaquenil/Biaxin worked much better. Too frightened of herx.

Hi,
I am in my 4th day, as you well know. My fatigue is coming from doing too much when I should be resting....Cleaning, shopping, etc....
Other than that, the bad taste from Biaxin is totally gone after a few days!
I would have liked to seen you on the Tetra for a few more months as it did help me, after it beat the hell out of me!

I am a chicken. Couldnt take the herx, felt would break down completely. But Dr. D said that no need to feel like that, he has seen other cases like that. That made me feel ok.

I'm getting ready to switch to Plaquenil & Biaxin too. I did it for the first time a year ago. The first dose was the worst. It made me nauseous and very strange feeling. The next few weren't as bad. Within a few days I was tolerating it fine.
While I was on it my energy level was more stable and I had way less ups and downs than I did on tetra. For me it was easier than tetra. The worst side effect was the constant bad taste in my mouth. Not a big problem really compared to the other Lyme problems I've dealt with.
I'm looking forward to getting off Tetra but not looking forward to the first days of P&B. I'm trying to find a good time to make the switch, preferably a few days when I can stay home if necessary. hatsnscarfs

It's not clear what you are taking it for.
There's a drug called ketek that came on the market in the past two years, which has replaced the combination of plaquenil with zithromax or biaxin to alter body pH. You just have to make sure you are on liver support, like N-acetyl choline or milk thistle, both vitamin store supplements that will run you about $15.
The ketek herx is intense, and for some people, it's miracle qualities come from combining it with another drug. The longstanding Dr. B protocol is to pair a cephalosporin (rocephin, omnicef, ceftin) with a macrolide (ketek, zithromax, biaxin) and a cyst buster (flagyl, tinidazole).
If you do a search for Dr. B's 2005 guidelines, they are the gold standard for longterm Lyme treatment.
If you choose plaquenil as a babesia drug, it's important to research it under another name, chloroquine. I'm not sure if the two are exactly the same, or just very similar. But chloroquine causes drug resistance to develop in many people when taken frequently.

Yep - Biaxin makes me search and eat everything is sight in order to get the crappy taste out of my mouth. Need to exercise more to lose the extra butt weight!
My hubby, on the other hand, doesn't get the taste - could be because he's always snacking anyway. He can't walk by food and not eat it.

This combo was not helpful for me at all. Had to find a LLMD who'd treat me for Babs with Mepron based on clinical sxs. This made a HUGE difference.
