The Doc I work for suggest to his patients that before having any Lyme tests or toxic metal testing that you get a massage first. The massage moves the toxins (or bacteria) into your blood stream, so its detected. Posted by seibertneurolyme (Member # 6416) on :
Didn't really use to think this would work, but am halfway convinced.
Right after hubby resumed weekly massages -- had stopped for a year -- started having nightsweats and other babs symptoms again.
There are a couple of other possible triggers, but definitely think the massages are one of the things that got the bugs to come out of hiding.
Haven't done any tests recently so can't comment on accuracy of the theory.

what are the best types of massage, eastern and/or western, for lyme?
i don't think some like reiki(?) are good for tbds, not in someone who is sick for over a year, with minimal, if any treatment.
my thinking here is that any massage that stretches, or pulls on tendons and ligaments to a great extent, or there is a rapid, forceful change in direction of a tendon/ligament or joint is a NO-NO.
i don't need muscle or back slaps, smacks, karate chop-type,nor korean back-walk type stuff. Else, i feel like i'll wind up in traction.
thanks

I did a massage whilst in hot water...I have felt ill for days!! I've done massages before and been fine but this definately triggered symptoms. I'll not be trying it again in a hurry
P.S. I don't really have any joint or tendon problems either
I think as Gigi suggests gentle lymphatic drainage massage is best...this is widely known to help CFS (lyme) patients in the uk.

I get shiatsu massage and cranial-sacral treatments.
Both seem to help a lot.

I was talking about getting the massage BEFORE having testing for either Borreliosis or Toxic metal panels. Your spouse, or whomever can give them to you, doesn't matter who.
What's important here is getting those nasty lil bugs or toxins moving in the blood stream and out of hiding so they will show up better on the tests.
I have no comment on just general, any-ole-time massages...

Thanks for your input.
On heat there were times when i entered a walk-in sauna, and within one minute, i felt like i wouldn't make it out alive, and at other times i could tolerate it for 2hr.
