I know plenty has been said about getting sunburn when outside while on Doxy but I am having a different problem.
I wear an spf of 50 and was outside for maybe 10 minutes on Saturday. My lips feet ankles and hands all started feeling like they were on fire. This lasted for about 48 hours. My lips actually felt blistered.
Is this normal? Does this happen to anyone else? This is the third time it has happened to me and it is very unpleasant.

I was on high doses of doxy last spring and all summer (IV doxy). The highest SPF availalble did not work very well at all. In fact it was pretty well useless. I suspect that the doxy causes the skin to respond to light that is outside the wavelengths that are protected against by the sun screen. I was burned severly in the spring and the hands got pretty bad in the summer.
I also noticed that different sunscreen manufacturers worked differently. There was one in particular that was good for the lips and was in a lipstick type tube. I will try to find it and let you know.
The best option is to get some appropriate clothing. Even the very light stuff works well. A hat is a must. Gloves work very well but are kind of weird to wear in the summer.

While on antibiotics once I went out and covered myself completely except my hands The next few days they felt completely on fire - it was a very deep and profuse burning for several days I will never do that again...

I understand your problem.....I also blister very quickly when I go out side.....just walking to the car can cause the sensations you describe..Cyder Vinager rubbed or sprayed on lightly seems to help

best to cover all area's of skin.
When I was on high doxy and didn't cover my hands they would burn. With or without extream sunburn.
Make sure to wear the floppiest biggest hat you can find and also cover your hands feet and ankles.
I found some chap stick with spf but it sometimes didn't help.

Hi,
I took doxy in the winter and there was very little sun. Just the cold, dry air caused this sensation on my hands.
I don't take doxy anymore because of that plus it made me break out and scar on my neck. My stomach can't tolerate it either.
My LLMD said that the burning sensation is a known side effect from doxy.

Yes, its the Doxy burn! You have to stay totally out of the sun. It doesnt matter how much sunscreen and clothes you wear, you can burn anyway. Ask your LLMD about switching to a different antibiotic for the summer so you can enjoy the sunshine!

I had to buy clothing with the SPF built in from Sun Precautions catalog, wear SPF gloves even for short works, the big SPF hat, high sun screen, etc. - still got burned.
Be very careful especially when driving - got the Doxy Knuckles from the sun coming in the car windows even with sunscreen.

Thanks all, at least I am not alone in my suffering!
My doc said she would probably change antibiotics at next appointment,
I can't wait to be off of this doxy. Is 5 months on Doxy long enough to get rid of Erlichiosis and mycoplasma? I hope so cuz I got them too, that was why she used Doxy first.
