Hi Friends-

I am nervous because I have horrible Neuro Lyme. On one of my questions on the site someone said that Biacillin Injections do not cross the Blood Brain Barrier. Is this true??

My doctor plans to put me on this after I see an allergist (child hood minor reaction to penicillan).

This will do me no good if it will not cross the BBB. Please let me know your experience or information.

Thanks!
Hope

Oh gee--My doc just put me on bicillin injections and if they don't cross the BBB I will be very upset as my only symptoms are seizures, imbalance, and fatigue. Hiker

I had horrible neuro lyme also and I was also afraid of my abx crossing the bbb.

But, after three months of orals-- doxy, biaxin, tetra (now only biaxin)...my neurolyme is very much under control. ( I was unable to put a sentance together, major headaches and hand/feet tingling.)

Now I am able to work half days, think and write clearly and I only forget stuff once in a while vs. every minute of every day.

I asked my llmd about the biaxin crossing the bbb or other abx and she said that they all do to some extent and the proof is in the pudding (symptoms are the best thing to watch).

What seems to happen in the body is that once the germ load is reduced, the immune system catches its breath and fights back.

The LLd also told me that IV and oral tend to do just as well w/neurolyme and that what really matters is if the abx can get into the cell not the bbb.

Again, I am only four months into my therapy but I am amazed at my recovery after the third month.
Hang in there...

Note that bicillin is getting very hard to get. The supply is dwindling.
