My 10month old puppy started with lethargy and not eating as heartily as she normally does this week.
Living on a farm you never know if the dog just got into some dead critter and is just not feeling well.
I was watching her like a hawk and decided to make an appt with the vet (today) and when she was rolling I saw a red spot on her inner thigh!
I took a closer look and it was a small dime sized perfect bullseye rash.
Got to the vet and she had a temp. too.
The vet said definately do lyme test as she had just this morning had a dog with a bullseye and positive for lyme.
Well my pup has high positive for lyme.
Poor baby.
Soo lets see....that makes all 4 of my family members, 3 of my horses and now my dog. My dog is on Frontline plus.
My vet said we should just resign ourselves that we need to treat every year for lyme as she is bound to keep getting it.
Maybe we would all be better living in the middle of a Wal Mart parking lot in a cardboard box. pattiecake

I am sorry your porr puppy got lyme.... thats no way to start out life....
But at least he got his dx early.
I am surprised that the frontline plus didnt work.
We use the cat kind on our cat and it seems to work (my cat is 99% white) so we can usually see bugs on him a little easier than darker colored cats.

Did your puppy get the lyme vacine. I took our new Bassett hound (4 months) today to vet and he got his lyme vacination. It seemed as if the vet knew more about lyme then some of the doctors I have been to with my son.

I'm confused. If people can get lyme from the vaccine, wouldn't that also be the case for animals? Terry

that hurts! that poor puppy. good thing he's in good hands! my sis's golden retriver died young form this, imo. in the end his hips were gone. when he was approx. 6 months, they pulled a tick from the side of his upper lip. it really feels cruel when a child, human or animal gets this.

Concerned Mother...No she did not get the vaccination because (I hate to tell you this I don't want to cause you any fear)My mother-in Laws dog got the vaccine and died 4 day's later.
My vet said that it is a "crap shoot" on if it even works. It would also muddy the waters if we were concerned that she might have gotten lyme.
PQ...Yes in SOME horses they cannot carry a rider and are EXTREMELY tired all the time. In one of my horses I pulled a tick off her and 10 days later her back legs were extremely swollen. (bingo!)
In another there was no symptoms at all I just had them all tested and she came up positive.
Horses have an amaizing way of adapting to pain and getting on with life. I got a new pony with really sharp pointy teeth, he had lascerations on his lips they were so bad and the only outward sign was that he really fiddled with his bit a lot. You need to have their teeth filed to prevent that. It is regular health care. Many people do not do it. It amaizes me that he was as happy as he was. patti
