I am in horrible pain. All of my muscles feel like I have been in an accident. I am on ceftin and nystatin. My back really hurts like I have been kicked in the middle. I wonder if it is my kidney's. I am SOOOOOO confussed. I have been taking meds for 10 weeks now started on doxy and diflucan have been taking the ceftin and nystatin for 2 weeks. I am not sure if it is yeast or lyme right now. I have had such bad headaches I can't stand to be in my body. My other big confussion is how do I know if I am herxing or if this med is not working. I have felt so horrible for so long, I don't know how you would decide if it is a herx or if your just still stuggling with all of your normal (terrible) lyme symptoms. Maybe the meds aren't working.

I didn't take any meds yesterday and I still feel horrible. Now do I take just the yeast med to see if that is the problem or the abx and the yeast med. AHHHHHH I am so confussed. I am sure I have yeast but, if you quit taking the abx you loose ground. It is such a catch 22.

This SUCKS I have been sick for soooo long I am 33 and I feel like I am 90!

Any thought or help is appreciated.

Sounds like you are herxing.

If you've been taking diflucan, it's probably not yeast. The headache and pain sure sound like herxing.

Call your doc and see if he permits backing down on meds and then sneaking back up on them. Some docs permit this, some want you to tough it out.

Try to think of it as a good thing - you feel terrible because you are killing spirochetes, which are producing neurotoxins. You're early in treatment -- all herxes aren't going to feel this rotten!

Hang on and pamper yourself any way you can. Take detox baths, drink tons of water with lemon, and rest. Take Advil or if that doesn't work, something stronger for pain - call your LLMD. It will pass and things will get better!

it is confusing at first trying to figure out is it a herx or something else. [confused]

after awhile, it is easier to figure out (usually) anyway. please call your doctor and tell him what kind of pain you are in so he can, perhaps, help you with it.

feel better

I've been there. I'm 31. Before treatment, my back pain was so bad. I also said I felt like I was in a 90 year old body.

The Lyme really does impact my muscles. It causes my muscles to inflame resulting in incredible stiffness and pain. I have to take a muscle relaxer every day.

I take Flexeril. At my worst, I took 30 mg a night. Beefy men would look at me wide eyed when I told them, as they were flat on their backs when they took 10mg. Now I am down to 10mg a day.

It took time to work, because I started at 5mg, increasing every week. That way it doesn't make you as tired. So it took about a month to get to a dosage of 20mg, which is when it first started working. I recommend it to people with muscle pain because it changed my life.

If you think there is kidney pain, call a doctor. It's possible the lyme or other infection was in the kidney.

I was in a lot of pain also. However one of the symptoms relieved almost immediately was the back pain. I still had nausea shortness of breath, tiredness, complete pins/needles & numbness in both arms.

I also think you are experiencing herxing. If you can write down the symptoms you will find dealing with it all a little easier. Writing in a journal helped give me the energy to get my feelings out so that it was like my best friend. I often wanted to cry, die, throw up or go to the hospital... I had to work.

You get to a point after taking the meds for a while that you wonder when the hell am I going to get over this? Is this lyme or the meds? Which toxins are which?

I used to take my abx in the a.m. Around noon I would take one or 2 acidophilis, then with dinner my abx, then 2 hours later 2 more acidophilis. Early in the a.m. I would take a multivitamin. My memory was so horrible I needed a pill container for the week. "Ginkgold" 2-a-day helped my memory and gave me more confidence. Xango beverage helps 2-3shot glass size a day during the worst of herxing or neuro lyme symptoms.

Another therapy was sharing my pain with these guys on line and phoning a lymenet friend.

We hear you.

Keep up the good work.

hi B! Until recently I was never officially told by my beginner LLMD to take acidophilus daily since I'm on antibiotics. Are you taking acidophilus?

I'm going to copy part of my newbie links here; look for the HERXING info ok!

My right arm from the time I started taking my pulsed abx hurt like crazy 24/7. It was like a punching bag to others..every part of it hurt. When I laid down the rest of arm, wrist, and hand became numb/tingling, etc. Pain was with me for 18+ months straight. Then I'd get other areas acting up.

Did you get set up for a new LLMD? I hope so since you were going to one similiar to the one I had who was a BEGINNER only, and we know more than they do.

Best wishes on feeling better soon. Think you mentioned DOXY; read my NOIR SUNGLASSES post too.

I'm currently in exactly the same boat you are, significant muscle pain after my first 12-16 weeks on abx. I'm not sure what it means (as I posted a similar question on the board last week). All I can attest to is that I've been taking abx for approximately the same time frame and have very similar symptoms.
