for the last 3 years I wake up with one very red eye about 2-3 times a month. It is not very painfull. There is no itching or discharge. It is not conjuctivitis. I have seen many opthamologists about it and no one knows what it is.

Just woke up with a reall beauty! I scare children!
Anyone else have this??????

Yes, I've been having this on and off for weeks in my left eye only. It's red and burns. I mentioned it to my LLMD last time but he didn't say much.

I did have a major red eye with my right eye many months ago.

Most of my Lyme symptoms are symmetrical, but the eye thing does seem to focus on one eye at a time, usually.

Yes, I get it a number of times a year. I have been told that it is from allergies. Huh!? Then why isn't my other eye red too?

I believe it is actually a virus, herpes probably. I don't have pain with it, which is untypical. But it does respond to Valtrex within 24 hours.

Also, it occurs when I have been under stress which is what happens with the virus in my system.

Usually, I do not get pain or discharge. But this last time I had sinus pressure, headaches and a sore throat. So I think that this one was a particularly strong outbreak.

Anyway, that is what I think mine is. I don't know if yours is similar. I think next time I am going to request a culture to see what it is.

Lysine is an amino acid that is known to suppress herpes. I am going to go on a maintenance dose of this to see if it works. And then I won't have to be on daily doses of Valtrex to keep it suppressed.

i get this. do you feel pressure in your head at the same time? if so, you may get some relief by getting osteopathic manipulation of the head and spinal column, as i do. Jen902

I thought my red eyes were from the Lyme?

Can you elaborate Jen902 on how the head pressure and red eyes might be related and how an osteopath can help? I am very interested.

Red eyes can be a classic symptom of Bartonella. My husband and I both had/have it. My husband would look downright scary with both eyes. Light sensitivity made it worse. He took eye drops but didn't always help. Went to eye doctor everything seemed fine.

You are the first people I have found in four years that also get "THE EYE". Thank you for responding!

I have it right now. Lyme has already shot my life to hell and the red eye makes me really hide in the house.

If anyone knows of anyway to relieve this symptom please, please let me know.

Thanks [dizzy]

Momoftwo, i didn't mean to imply that lyme isn't causing the red eye, but that osteopathic manipulation may help it, whatever the cause.

i get the red eye and pain in my face, jaw, and head. i think it is caused by pressure in my head. it helps me to get cranial sacral therapy by a doctor of osteopathy.

their theory is that the brain and spinal fluid has a wave or beat to it, and that they can adjust it. they also believe that the sutures in our skulls are not entirely solid, but can be adjusted slightly.

Prior to getting glutathione and magnesium iv's, this was basically the only way i could obtain relief from the horrible pain in my head. i was severely depleted in glutathione and mg, and getting iv's to supplement these has helped tremendously. blessings to you. jen902

Thanks Jen902. I have been meaning to give an Osteopath a try but this hurries up my decision.

My red eyes (usually just one at a time) have improved since I started antibiotics. However, they ususally are accompanied by the ear/head pressure. In fact I know my eyes will be red before even looking in the mirror by how my head feels.

Quick poll - Folks that get one red eye..have any of you tested positive for lymes or babs or are you clinically diagnosed?

I used to get redness in my R eye only (sometimes looked like an injury). It would go away after a couple of days on its own.

I am CDC positive from IGeneX and also tested positive for Ehrlichia and EBV (+IgM).

I have not tested positive for any other TBD's, but you know how accurate those tests are anyway.

I get this from time to time as well. It is usually just the left eye. It looks like a mild case of uveitis but only in a small part of the white not the entire white like uveitis usually presents. I went to the eye doctor and they were not sure what it was. It went away on its own in a few days. It was definetly not conjunctivitis. There is no pain, swelling, or drainage.

And Badtick to answer your question I tested positive for Lyme with the LUAT and PCR tests. I was negative for babs, but treated it anyway.
