-Has any one reacted to regular tick bites with a rash?
-Are there any indications that regular ticks carry lymes?

We have both lymes ticks and "dog" ticks (common wood ticks) here in n. mn....I have had approx. 5 of the dog ticks stuck on me since April (and we check ourselves religiously once or twice per day!).

I am reacting to these bites with a rash....more like a regular skin rash or diaper rash, and not the bulls-eye rash. Should I be concerned?

I did put antibiotic cream on the bites, and that could be causing the rash too.....

I do have RA, and have had it since early 1980's....long before lymes ticks showed up here, but always have had plenty of dog ticks.

Hi mceline, Welcome [Smile]

I would think any tick could transmit anything it may have picked up from a previous "meal."

So, if those wood ticks fed on rodents (for example) that may have been carrying the Lyme bacteria, then, yes, they could transmit that lyme bacteria to their next host.

I'm sure there is some doucmentation somewhere that discusses this. Hopefully others will come along with more concrete info.

You mentioned the RA, do you have any other chronic symptoms?

This is a good thread here to start getting a lot of basic info on Lyme and other tick borne diseases (TBD):

Yes dog ticks carry lyme! So do horse flys, mosquitos, & deer flys. Anything that transmits blood can transmit disease.

Dog ticks just do not test well as deer ticks. My sons were all bitten by dog ticks and all have lyme!

Also, my LLMD is doing reseach on bullseye rashes being the indicators of a previous infection. So once you get a rash, you've probably been exposed to lyme before.

I would look into getting treatment.

This is what I found on dog ticks---
