I just started abx this week and I am already herxing. I get flu like symptoms and feel extremely emotional. It seems the more I try to relax and take it easy the worse I feel. I start my masters program next week and I'm scared I'm not going to be able to make through a day of school. Has anyone else gone to school while on abx? Any words of advice? Are there any alternative methods that ease the pain? vanessa

Epsom salts baths are good. Also could try turmeric or ginger tea as herbal anti-inflammatories. Drink lots of lemonade sweetened with stevia as well.
Be sure to take lots of acidophilus too.
If the symptoms get too bad you should call your LLMD to see if you should reduce your dose of meds temporarily.
Good luck.

Hi, I became ill into the beginning of my doctoral program - I made it to candidacy before I had a diagnosis. I completed all my requirements and my doctorate 2.5 years ago. It was grueling and scary at times, but I felt like I could either try to do what I am here to do on earth or just be a big ball of pain and fear. I think a supportive therapist during this illness is really important and one that is Lyme literate all the better. It will help you to manage the lows and fears while doing treatment. It really is will and fervor that will get you through. If you ever feel worried, you have us to touch base with, M

Many LLMD's advocate backing off the meds when the herxing becomes too severe. I hope yours is in that camp.
Slow and steady wins the race.
Hang in there!!

I made it through my masters' program with raging, undiagnosed lyme. I, too, didn't want my life to be just a big ball of pain and nothing more....
The first couple of herxes seem to be the worst for most folks -- they tend to get less frequent and less severe as time/treatment go on.
