I noticed this morning that the very back of my tongue is coated with like a white yellowish thick coat.. Is this yeast? Are there any other things that can cause this? I also noticed in the last 3 weeks or so whenI take my antibiotic ( on Cefzil) my mouth burns and then my lips feel a litte like their burning and sorta numb like.. Any idea's? I think that the white-yellowish film on back of tongue is yeast. You may need an antifungal such as Nystatin or Diflucan, or even a torche.
The burning could be from nerves in the mouth (as antibiotic is affecting the spirochete load and nerve areas)area, but you may want to check in with your llmd to make sure it isn't an allergic reaction of some sort.

Dido on the last post.
To call your LLMD to make sure the burning tongue isn't an allergic reaction.
And a coating on the tongue, specailly while on abx can be a sign of thrush-yeast.
Are you taking alot of pro-biotics? And watching your diet? This is important to prevent yeast problems.
What I have found with thrush is, that with every swallow you are pushing the yeast down your GI tract. And this can lead to problems in the GI tract also . That's why I would
definetely ask my doc for some thrush meds and maybe even some diflucan/nystatin.
Take care

I just learned lately from reading my detailed 4-20-06 LLMD summary & lab results; yes, a white coated tongue means YEAST; I have that too plus in digestive tract. I've been on diflucan 1 yr. plus...
Just started acidophillus this past month. No MD ever told me to get on it. I read about it hear all the time but didn't understand the important of it!

Yes, you may need some TROCHES so that the yeast is killed all the way down. If you have it in your mouth, you have it in your throat and all the way down, as dana said.
One brand of troches is Mycelex.
If you're not following a good diet, now is the time!
Sounds like yeast to me. I had the same problem. I got it under control by doing the following: Anti Yeast diet (www.wholeapproach.com), Probiotics: theralac (www.theralac.com) has been the best by far. I take it every other night alternating with Primadophilus Reuteri. I take 1 Primal Defense Caplet at noon. If my tongue gets coated I sprinkle a little Primal Defense powder on it.
I had to be super strict on the anti yeast diet for almost one year. If I ate even one bite of the wrong thing my tongue would get coated. 2 bites and I'd have vaginal yeast too (I don't know if you're M or F!). Once I discovered theralac (not threelac) I felt much better and have been able toi add limited amounts of grains back into my diet.
You can do lots of searches on LymeNet for yeast. hatsnscarfs

Most probably yeast. You can buy one of those tongue scrapers and scrap it off, then start on whatever makes you feel comfortable in the line of yeast treatment.
My boyfriend has chronic yeast in his mouth. Its a helluva battle.
Im giggling at artist di for telling you to get a torche. BUT, I knew what she meant.

Try the Theralac that you can buy online. It worked wonders for me after just a day or two.
Doc gave me the orange stuff you are supposed to swish with to get rid of it .......all it did was make me gag.
Theralac works! And no complications at all on my end.
good luck!

The first sign of toxicity shows up on your tongue. There are a whole bunch of causes for different shades of green, yellowish, creamy, white, bright red that your tongue will display.
The first move should be toward clearing out the colon and taking remedies and taking action to drain the lymphatics and help the tonsils unload.
If you swallow toxins and if you kill microorganisms, they will surface somewhere. Your tongue is one of the first to look up. Your tongue will never be pink if you store toxins in your colon and your lymphatics do not work they way the should. Probiotics alone is going to change that. You need to start "cleaning house" with colonics and lymphatic drainages by therapists who are trained to do that. You also will feel a lot better and will be able to heal quicker.
Take care.
P.S. This board seems to be obsessed with yeast!! Missing trace minerals/minerals, malabsorption, food allergies, parasites - all play a role, and your tongue is a good indicator of all that. The major problem is a toxic colon where colonics (by a certified therapist) help a lot.

Well, for ME, I can't manage to get anything to stick around in my colon long enough to accumulate any toxins. I'm lucky if it will stick around long enough to make it to the john.
All blood tests/fecal occult tests, etc. are negative. LLMD says autonomic/brain-related.
All my yeast problems ended since starting Theralac. Tongue is pink & pretty again! Avoiding Fluconazole is best, if possible. Your liver will thank you.
While taking high doses of multiple antibiotics, I don't think it's possible NOT to be "obsessed" about yeast. You just cannot ritualistically slaughter that many friendly bacteria every day without doing something seriously proactive about it.
I'm not making light of colonics here and in fact know nothing about it. I just see yeast rear its head and bite so many unsuspecting people in the butt -- or tongue !!! -- me included. Deal with it early, 'cause it's coming for you!!

One question for Theralac users:
to get rid of the furry tongue is it enough to swallow the Theralac or do you have to break the capsule and put the contents on your tongue?
