My husband had a tick bit probably from sometime last weekend, he found it Tuesday and pulled it out. He has a nice little rash. I called our PCP and he put him on DOXY 100mg BID for one day only since he wanted to be proactive knowing everything I went through with the Lyme.
My son had a nymph on him last night we pulled it off and he has a very small red area. His pediatrician will not put him on an ATBX to be proactive. Should I demand it or just keep watching the area?
My family are "tick" magnets between me, my husband and now my son.

I have no medical expereince at all and the following is just my opinion as a lymie...
but I have heard that 100mgs a day is too low. and I have heard the reccomended length of time is more like 4-6 weeks of treatment
Demand the abx for your son! Better safe than sorry. The wait and see option is not a good idea. The more lyme spreads the harder it is too kill.
If your docs wont cooperate find a llmd. I would suggest you save yourself the aggrevation of trying to be treated by people that don't understand and find a llmd for them.
Since you have lyme I assume you already have one.... I would take son and hubby to llmd asap

I am not a doctor but a fellow 20 lyme patient and the consiqences of not taking a abx in the beginning or a high enough dose just isn't worth the chance.
The watch and see approach is a dangerous one to take. Because the lyme infection can surface many days/months,even years later . But by then he has a very good chance of developing chronic lyme.
It is just not worth the chance of a life long disability.
The rash also only developes in 40-50% of patients at best.
I agree with Azure Wish in that the 100 mg doxy BID is not a high enough dose.
