Started Ceftin a few days ago and am starting to have a little herx- paresthesias, not bad though. Just wondering how everyone else did on this and if it helped. What side effects and herxs did you experience?

Works pretty good BUT watch out for yeast problem starting,, no sugar like soda.

I call it the smurf pill [Big Grin]

I took it for about 5 months with Zithromax. Herxed the whole time I was on it so I started doing 10 days on and 5 days off.

That way I had a break from the abx.

When I first came down with symptoms in 2001, and treatment wasn't progressing on doxycycline, I was put on Ceftin, and that kicked it into remission. Although it took time to recover afterward, my gut actually tolerated the Ceftin better than doxy.

I have been on it (off and on) for months......combining it with other drugs. My first 9 weeks of treatment the 2 ceftin twice daily and levaquin really worked. My inflammed, painful knees, sex drive, spelling sense all improved. The herxing I have done these 10 months seems to follow every 28 days or so no matter what I am on.

I have never had any gut problems with it. Thrush problems came with biaxin only.

After taking Ceftin for a few days, I was actually having these "flashes" where my body would turn blue...like cyanosis...not enough 02 in my body...

Weird.

Stopped taking it.

excellent results with ceftin, and in a way the equivalent of, but not a substitue for, rocephin.

gotta watch the yeast though.

i had 3 courses, months to approx. 1yr. apart.

the first two courses of the brand form, excellent result.

the third, generic form, nothing.

I've been taking generic ceftin since I started treatment in June.

I did have some initial reaction to it (the first few days). I also kept daily track of my symptoms. Exactly 28 days into treatment, I had a herx that landed me in the er with paralysis. That didn't deter me, and I had the same thing happen again 28 days later.

I know my herx experience is really scary; I also think it's pretty atypical. I had been undiagnosed for at least 9 years prior to starting treatment, so the disease had a long time to get into my system.

By the way, since that second herx, I haven't experienced any paralysis at all. Even the numbness I had on my face and hands has gone (now, I just need the numbness in my foot to go away)

I kept taking this abx, because I continued to get better.

Now, I'm functioning at about 65 to 70% -- a VAST improvement over where I was this time last year. I had no yeast problems with the ceftin itself but when I added rifampin to the mix (for bart), I could feel yeasty stuff as a possibility. I've been a lot more vigilant about my diet recently.

Hope this is helpful!

Andie
