I was at my chiropractor a few weeks ago & she mentioned that my left eye was bulging while she was adjusting me & my eyes were closed. She doesn't overreact about anything but was very concerned about it. I went to my eye doctor & he did a full exam, my vision is 20/20 in that eye & he wasn't concerned.
The vision is funny, I can't explain it & it feels funny, sort of like when the eye Dr. puts the drops in to numb it.
Has anyone experienced this? How does LD affect the eyes?

Im from SE Pa too. Welcome to the board.
I had strange eye problems before diagnosis.
My eyes would feel fixed...like i couldnt really move them....only way i could explain it was the way you feel when you have a head cold.
I also had sensitivity to light.
Lyme and coinfections do affect the eyes, you can do a search on this site and im sure it will pull up lots of posts.
Also check out the newbies link at the top of this page..lots of great info as well.
Do you have a lyme literate dr?

My eye symptoms have included blurred vision (just once for a half hour in my left eye); a paper cut feeling over my entire eyeball (this comes and goes in a matter of seconds); peripheral floaters, and flashes of light.

Have you had your thyroid checked? -- could be a sign of thyroid disease or overactive thyroid, but usually both eyes would bulge.
Most common eye symptoms are photophobia (light sensitivity) and blurry vision. Here is a list of other more serious vision problems.

Don't forget the co-infections!! Bartonella also causes many eye problems. Since Borrelia Burgdorferri also causes eye problems, no one knowns what they do in combination.

Yes, the coinfections should be checked! My LL neuro-opthamalogist says he sees most serious eye issues with Bartonella and Babesia. He found optic nerve damage that my regular eye doctor missed.
You might consider seeing a neuro-opthamalogist if your sysmptoms persist. They have a much more complete training, even if they are not Lyme Literate.
Mine also explained why my vision keeps changing. The infections cause inflammation, which causes a lack of blood flow to the brain and eye. It is the lack of blood and oxygen that causes the blurry vision that can change so easily.

My eyes are rusty (hard to roll them) and feel little pain behind them.
Still don't know what is going on. Tetracyklines helped some, but problem is still here.

yes, you should be checked for overactive thyroid and Grave's Disease of the eyes....Betty Davis' bulging eyes. My hubby has had this for 25+ years. Very painful; he wipes tears because the sting just burns if he doesn't.
Hubby also took a RADIOACTIVE PILL, at the hospital which we were never charged for!
Between the 2 of us when his eyes are acting up, he needs DARKER house than me and I've got it pitch dark in here during the day!

Much eye damage here. Decreased contrast and very little color contrast left. About legally blind now. Have had Babesia and probably Bart. Mine has come on fast in less than a year. Very aggressive. Go to a neuro opthamologist. We are still working on finding the answer. I think Carol sent you the name of the physician. MD is very knowledgable and excellent. Stay strong and good luck!! Yes, lyme and all the tick stuff can do a lot in the eye. The little buggers like to hide out there( amongst other places). Let us know what else we can do to help! I've had all kinds of eye problems w/LD...double vision, difficulty w/depth perception,, droopy eye (ptosis), conjunctivitis, pink eye, floaters, feeling like something gritty is in my eyes, numbness around the outside of the eye, and I'm sure there may be more that I'm not thinking of at the moment.
The good news is that many of these symptoms have disappeared after 8mos of abx. They're not all gone though, but overall I'm much better.
I went to some famous neuro-opththalmologist here in LA before I was diagnosed w/LD, and he didn't come up w/anything in his exam, so in retrospect, I wasn't impressed. It's good that you have a referrals from people here on this board for the one in PA.

Lyme disease can do all sorts of things to the eye. Although severe ocular problems are rare they do occur.
I had a multitude of eye problems with my Lyme Disease such as uveitis, retinitis, optic neuritis, optic neuropathy,retinal vasculitis, cystoid macular edema.
I lost a great deal of vision in my eyes due to all the above. I was only able to count fingers at 2 ft in my left eye during one period. Thankfully, after finding a LLMD in NJ and a uveitis specialist in Boston. I have just about regained all of my vision in both eyes.
I have to travel 2 1/2hours by car for my LLMD in NJ every 3 months and fly to Boston every 3-6 months for my eyes. It used to be 4-6 week trips to Boston.
Hang in there and make sure you see an opthomologist that understands Lyme.

I can't believe it! I have cystoid macular edema too! It startd about a month after the BITE, appearing as a "wheeping hole" as my eye doc said in Hawaii. After 4 different opinions I called medicare and asked if I could go to a 5th doc to try to get 2 out of 5 answers. I went to my husband's doc who treats his macular degeneration, so I trust him. I KNEW it was caused by tick!

Hi, "Can'tgiveup" the fixed eye problem is commonly referred to as "stare" most commonly seen in MS and Alzheimer's patients. This can be a part of the LD experience. I have yet to hear of the bulging eye problem. You should see an opthamologist.

I have had a lot of problems with my eyes.
Blurred vision, hard to focus. Tears. Floaters. Foggy. Lack of contrast.
TRY Periwinkle Tincure IF you haven't already. IT has done wonders for MY eyes. And I do mean wonders.
