I was diagnosed with LD, Bartonella, RMSF, Ehrlichiosis, and Babesiosis last summer after being ill for about 20 years. My son, who is now 11, has had symptoms over the years that
caused us to suspect that he has ADHD. [confused]

In addition to significant concentration and short term memory issues, he has had a fine motor delay, fatigue, problems falling and staying asleep, nightmares, fears of being alone, migrating muscular pain, and some other symptoms that I cannot remember right now. [Eek!]

After learning that LD may be transmitted to the fetus in utero, my son was evaluated by a reputable pediatrician in northern VA. A Western Blot was negative through Quest Labs.

It took some arguing, but his pediatrician finally consented to sign for tests through IgeneX. He also gave me a referral for a pediatric Infectious Disease doc in the area that is viewed as someone who "walks on water".

I finally received the Igenex lab report today over the phone. Both the lab tech and nurse at the doctor's office informed me that my son's IGM was negative. When I went and got a copy of the results, the IGG was positive per IgeneX and CDC protocol. [Roll Eyes]

I was told that my son had been exposed to LD at some point, but that his body was "not presently fighting Lyme". Once again, I was given a referral to this ID doc for reassurance about my concerns. According to the pediatrician, LD has been ruled out. [confused]

Would someone please help me with this? I'm posting my son's results. Please explain the
IGM / IGG difference. Also, should my son be tested for the co-infections that I have?
I am tring to locate a LLMD to evaluate my son.

His father (my ex) refuses to believe that I have LD, so will not even consider the possibility that
our son has it also. This is going to be a legal nightmare [shake]

Glad to see you pursued IGENEX to do western blot igm/igg on your son.

Go to TREEPATROL'S NEWBIE LINKS at the top of medical, 1st screen. Look for Dr. C's explanation of the western blot....lots of info there to read. It breaks it down by numbers too.

I'll post some of what it says here:

"A positive IgG result with clinical history may be indicative of Lyme disease. Patients with other spirochetal disease and/or who test positive for rheumatoid factor or Epstein Barr virus may have cross-reacting antibodies. A positive response in this, as in any antibody assay, indicates sensitization, not necessarily active disease."

From Dr. C's Western Blot explanation:

"In my clinical experience, if a patient has symptoms suspicious for borreliosis, and has one or more of the
following bands, there is a very high probability the patient has borreliosis.
These bands are 18, 22, 23-25, 28, 30, 31, 34, 37, 39, 41, 83, and 93. This is true regardless of whether it
is IgG or IgM.. But again, there is (no universal agreement) on the significance of these bands. "

Also, remember, that it is of general agreement among LLMDs that an "IND" on a Western Blot band should not be read as a "negative"--it shows that there is some reaction on that band, just not a high positive.

Hi,

From what I see, you need to find a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor. ID docs tend to be Lyme Illiterate. Try to avoid that option.

Are you being treated for your infections? If so, take your son to that doctor. If not, you both need to find a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor.

Go to Seeking a Doctor and post your location in the subject line. People will respond with doctors in your area who are specialists in treating tick born diseases.
