I just am really confused. I know some cannot be taken at the same time. Anyhow here is my list of meds. Would love for someone to break it down for me. Thanks....

Rocephin IV (morning and night)
Rifampin (I like to take in morning)
Prevacid (once a day)
Actigall (twice a day)
Acidophilus -How much should I take and how often?)
Bactrim (twice a day)

Proud pup, we're not MDs here.

May I suggest that you call your pharmacist and have them explain that to you? With my pharmacy, they have printouts of each NEW med and that tells a lot about times, etc.

Good luck and then write down the answers; since I can't remember longer than 1 minute anymore if I'm lucky! [Big Grin]

Hi,

I think that if one doctor rx'd all of these meds, you could probably take them at any time.

The acidophilus needs to be taken 2 hours before or after an oral antibiotic so you don't kill the bacteria before they get to where they are needed.

Also, I've been told to take as much probiotic as possible as often as possible. It's best to get different brands and pop them throughout the day. My sister has multiple brands and mixes them all in one bottle so the mixture is truely random. That may be overkill but it's still a pretty good idea.

Hope this helps,

Corgilla

I know someone can help with this..

Maybe I wasn't clear. My LLMD prescribed them all. I know they are all safe. But, I also know you don't take your antibodics with your acidophilus, and I believe maybe the prevacid should not be taken within so many hours of something... ( That is why I posted)

How has others busted up all there meds to make it non confusing??

Just trying to make sure I get the most benifit from them.

Corgilla, I was posting when you were.

Thank you for that information. That does help.

When you are sick and feeling crappy and just want a simple , fast answer, this is the place.

I think it is better sometimes to ask the ones going through want you are.

I would consult physician for a breakdown. i used to be a nurse . I can give you only some generalities to work on when you ask your physician, as I legally can't prescribe. Think of this as a check list for your questions.

In general, probiotics should be taken after a two hour window with antibiotics that there is no absorption/ interference reactions.

Your Iv rocephin is you interveneous antibiotic. The actigall is given to prevent gall bladder sludging that could occur with this antibiotic. I would ask doctor in what time element before or after the antibiotic, he would like you to take the actigall so it is maximally effective.

Prevacid is a proton pump inhibitor for acid in the stomach. I would review when my acids symtoms are worse in am or pm and when you have taken it in the past. Also check with the doctor since it reduces acid production if there is a time element around other drugs that prevacid could interfere with. Hope this helps answer instead of raising other questions. good luck, stay strong and you can always confer with pharmacy also for full list out of medications.

I don't know about all of the meds you're taking. I can say that acidophilus is a type of probiotic. While on anti-biotics you need more than acidophilus alone, you need a broader probiotic, and a strong one.

Here's a web quote:
***Probiotics like acidophilus and lactobacillus should be taken on an empty stomach. These supplements are important for a healthy digestive system and are useful for treating Candida and for replenishing the intestinal flora after taking prescription anti-biotics.***

They also help to boost the immune system.

I take mine first thing in the morning, 30 minutes before breakfast.

I had a nutritionist help me with my RX and supplement schedule. I'd been taking things when I thought they should be taken based on packaging info, but the nutritionist had better suggestions.
