Hi- just wondering if you experience any bad reactions when you STOP IV antibiotics after being on them for so long ( 4 months).. I am supposed to go back to work next week and doc is probably pulling the PICC line soon.. Can your body go into any weird withdrawal ( not necessarily lyme symptoms) but just from being on IV meds for so long? Just wondering if I should expect any adverse symptoms..
Thanks

Are you going on orals?

As a person who has years of expereince with lyme and being treated, I would want orals after the picc is pulled unlessall my symptoms are gone.

I never had any withdrawl symtpoms from stopping IV - don't know if it can happen.

Best wishes

You didn't say which IV med you had? Assuming it was Rocephin as that is most common. rocephin in particular has a reputation for putting Lyme into the cyst form.

The thing that happens to most people is that if they have Babesia or another coinfection symptoms start showing up in a week or two. If you are only dealing with Lyme it will usually take longer (like months).

Good luck.

Oh yeah, you sure can have strange things happen after abx. I, for one, tend to break out in hives a few days after stopping abx. I am in an abx free zone at the moment and feeling like shoe scrapings. Been at this for 3+ years, with 3 attempts at stopping meds to give my colon a chance to settle down. Each time I feel just plain awful from the withdrawal. It does, however, give me a chance to clear up IBS and yeast temporarily.

I did not, though that's just me. I was on rocephin for six months. Had a hard time initially, but then just adapted to it. I don't remember noticing any big difference in how I felt when I stopped (other than relieved!)
