Okay wait just a minute here. I am a little slow these days. I need some help here folks:
I had to stop taking mepron after being on it (this time, my 3rd time) for only 10 days due to elevated liver enzymes.
2 days after stopping I got my period as expected and I began herxing, as sort of expected.
My herx was very babesia like....hot face, chills, fevers, sweats, super duper dizzy, brain foggy.
I THOUGHT this was maybe the symptoms coming to the surface because of treatment....just a bit delayed. I have had this happen before---no babs symptoms until I treat it. Also I am still on zith and artemisininininininin.
So---I know no one knows the absolute answer BUT---can you RELAPSE from babs within 48 hours of stopping mepron but staying on art?

Hmm. What's the half life of Mepron? From what I read on rxlist, it's REALLY long...like 67 hours.
I'd say you're still herxininining...
It could be liver related too. Dunno about that.

I am not fully operational but I do recall my doctor asking me how long it took for me to start going down hill when I am off of meds.
He said he learned at the conference that this means something. He didn't say this. I did.
I just can't recall what it meant. I think it had to do with what type of infection you most likely have.

Goodness, you had better get it together Miss T...we have a lunch date...and if you don't show I will be forced to eat all of the chips and salsa by myself!
Actually, now that I think about it...I wouldn't even be able to do that what with the no carb adventure I am embarking on.
Hmmmm, what can one have at a mex place that doesnt have carbs?
Margarittas perhaps?
How have you been on the carb diet yourself?
I know that whenever I over indulge I get that super dizzy, foggy, weak, bloated thing going on too.
Or... maybe that is the Babs talking?

Yes, I have been treated for babesia for four straight years. First two on mepron/zithro or biaxin. Then one year on malerone because I hated the mepron. The fourth year back to mepron as I was getting worse on malerone. Cannot take Lariam.
The signficance of going down after stopping medication....
Well, it is very possible to go down after only 48 hours. I did that all the time when I tried to stop.
Now, I can go almost 5 days...that is a big deal! What it means is that my germ load is reduced.
You see, the sooner you go down, the more infected you are. The longer you can hold without medication, the more effective your treatment has been.
It wasn't until I started high dose cleocin and zithro, and I mean 1,200 mg cleocin and 1,000 zithro plus mepron, that I started to really kick babesia. I started this new regemin in January. Now, after five months of this, I can leave the mepron for many more days.
Babesia can be just as chronic as lyme for some people.
And some people receive 6 months treatment and it is a thing of the past.
