Has anyone used IV Rocephin with IV Vancomycin. I'm taking these for pericarditis, which I got 6 weeks after a successful mitral valve repair.

Cardiologists have me on Indocin 3x/day. Infectious disease doc has me on above abx 2x/day. Can't help but wonder if lyme caused it all - the mitral problems and the infection afterwards.

Do you think these abx will help if it's lyme?

Yes. What's more, they are synergetic with each other.

example of synergy: 1+1=3

Have you been tested for bartonella. Bart likes to reside on the valves.

I agree with Dave. IV levaquin would be a good addition if its Bart. The key is to get a second opinion with a LLMD. If you have Lyme, then you can bet you have a co-infection. They have to be treated as well, or you can't expect a full recovery.

Good luck, and I hope this helps:)

IV Rocephin or Vancomycin are excellent lyme antibiotics. Vancomycin is not often discussed on this fourm. My former LLMD used it in Rocephin faiures with great results. Wicked herxhemier reactions from it. I think taking both at the same time would be tough on the body.

I wonder if I am herxing. I have been feeling awful - very weak, can't walk without assistance, and constant fatigue. I have to go back to bed after doing much of anything, even taking a shower. I think I could sleep all day long.

My ID doc isn't lyme literate but she's treating me according to this cardiac protocol (6 wks of these IV abx). I wonder if I should contact my LLMD. I'd have to see if I can get a ride over to see him. I can't drive.

I would definitely call your LLMD and let him know what is going on.

Hope you are having routine bloodwork done. Doing these 2 meds together should help with Lyme and the pericarditis, but these are very powerful meds and could be hard on the liver and maybe kidneys as well.

Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.
