OK,

so it has been a week of Diflucan...and I have to say that I am feeling much better.

I have been a very good girl on the low carb- no sugar diet as well. (friday was donut day, and I didn't even glace in that direction)

But, I am getting a bit tired of just meat and veggies...so...

the question is- just how many carbs count as a low carb diet?

Just a low carb piece of bread, or a corn totillia contiains at least 11-14 grams! (and my sandwiches don't seem to hold together very well without something to contain the lettuce [Smile] )

So, what is the majic number that I should be aiming for? 0-10, 10-50, etc?

Anyone know for sure?

I and my tummy thank you in advance,
M

complex carbs are better.

I can do ok with spelt bread, white flour is much worse.

Instant 5 minute oatmeal I dont do well with. The irish oatmeal is fine.

Its how fast they break down in your body that counts.

Look up glycemic index in google and you can identify these foods better.

I aim for 30-60....but yes, go for low glycemic index and whole grain, etc. It's really best to get some Ezekiel bread at the health food store.

It is sprouted grains, not a true grain.

If 60 grams is too much, lower it until your symptoms are better.

Maybe this will help:

I actually do even worse with complex carbs than simple sugars, since I have trouble breaking them down.

As for a number . . . that's gonna be different for everyone. I know that for me the only fruit I can have is lemon/lime, the very occasional berry, and no grains, beans, or underground veggies.

On top of my Lyme, my ancestors hail from northern latitudes and I'm a 21-year old active male, so my 200 gms of protein, 200 gms of fat, 6 gms of carb/meal thing probably isn't appropriate for most.

Experiment. Find what works for you.

i do ok with the dense breads and 1/2 cup brown rice one or two times a day -real oatmeal -barley in soups-again-not a huge amt compared to the veggies-and for me pinto beans seem to be ok but not the others

Hello,
I tried 15 but found I would have incredible headaches so 30 was easier.

50 - 60 is somthing you can live with, try new recipes ect..

I sent you some stuff M luv ya.

Ps You can eat carbs just have to be the ones that dont break down easy did you know strawberries are okay very low carb also watermellon I like it mixed in yogurt but make sure you read yogurts lable some are just chucked full of carbs the bad ones. [Big Grin]

use plain yogurt add your artificial sweetner of choice & maybe some flavor like vanilla

I disagree that watermelon is OK.

I agree lymetoo

I believe watermelon added to my current yeast problem

back on day 3 of the diet and feeling a tad better...not going off for anything.

Watermelon Portion 0.25 cup TotalCarbs {grams}2.8

I know its hard to believe but thats what it sez in Atkins carb counter.

Granted theres good carbs and bad carbs ie fast absorbed slow absorbed.

Hi Melanie,

I've been thinking the same recently. For years I mostly did 20grams a day or so. Very hard to live like that....so kept falling off the wagon periodically and going to other extreme instead.

Now I am trying to do low GI instead, which I would guess brings me up to about 60 carbs a day.

My LLMD did say when I said I couldnt' cope with the very low carb anymore as I couldn't stick to it, that one does need some carbs...whole grains, etc.

I would stick to brown rice, pulses, sweet potatoes, etc. personally if I touch sweet things like honey and fruit, I crave more.

watch the sweet potatoes....i started craving them and would eat them everyday. Once a week may be ok for some....but they turn into sugar fast in our bodies.

i luv sweet potatoes.

I agree with the brown rice pulses too.

I crave more too if i just have a drop of honey...look out im eating all kinds of bad stuff. That is what set me off a few weeks ago.

puffed rice with no sugar is great for breakfast...very yummy with unsweetened almond milk....and satisfies the carbs early in the morning.

i was craving salad last nite :-)

Thank you all so much for the information.

I have been doing quite well on the low carb no sugar plan so far...well, except for a couple of days off on NC.

Anyway, have lost 10 lbs so far, but I think much of that was bloat, water weight from Edema. (a 4lb. weight loss/gain overnight when it flares)

It does get easier as time goes on... [Smile]

Thanks for the help,
M

'Thank goodness, huh?!

tree....that's only about 2-3 bites of watermelon....can you stop at that amount? It's one of the things I really miss.

can't....I'm with you. If I start eating carbs, I begin eating more and more until I've totally lost it.

I usually add it to my plain yogurt with some vanilla and sweetnlow. Also I double the amount = 5.6 the idea is to for me keep total carbs down around 20% when trying to lose weight when not 30% will work for most people some can go higher.
