Hi,

I am new in this country and thus unfamiliar with the local products and ways of getting them.

I have been taking antibiotics and flocnazole for a year now and my doctor told me to stop for a while and get my body, esp. alimentary system, working again. Unfortunately, I couldn't get medications back home any more and must now rely on your help.

What products would you recommend to build up the gut flora (you must know that I am awfully sensitive there)?
Where would I get these products? Over the counter? In what stores?

Hi Hans~ Welcome to America! Most health food stores carry "probiotics" which help restore the normal flora of the GI tract. Many grocery stores also have a "health food section" which may contain probiotics too.

Often this are tablets of some kind that are refrigerated.

Some possible brand names: PB8, Primadolphilus, FloraQ.

Look for a brand that has several strains of bacteria, and has intestinal release of those strains.

Or buy online at www.vitacost.com You can get PB8 there very cheap...but it's good!

Additionally, eat low sugar yogurt with live cultures in it.

Particularly, goat or sheeps yogurt are good if you're sensitive to cows milk and they generally also have low sugar.

Also, some goat cheeses have cultures in them. Good for a snack during the day or 1hr before going to sleep.

Try to eat healthy in general though. This will help your gutt too.

Stay away from sugary foods, especially refined sugar foods. Fruits are generally ok, except perhaps bananas and melons.

Also, try to keep high carb foods such as breads, pasta and rice foods at a minimum.

It all helps your tummy and gives Bb a hard time.

I recently met with an integrative medicine specialist who recommends probiotic pearls, which are enteric coated. The enteric coated helps the probiotics make it all the way through your system to the lower digestive track. Other probiotics may not make it so far.

They sell a number of supplements through their offices. The brand he had me purchase was Integrative Therapeutics, Inc. Probiotic Pearls. This is the cheapest I've found it online:

He suggested I take two twice a day, for a total of 4 a day. Ideally with food, but better to take it 2 hours away from antibiotics then with a meal.

It is also recommended to eat a very low sugar and low carbohydrate diet, because yeast and other bacteria that is not the good flora live on sugar. I personally had to stop that diet because of other issues.

I've heard one also needs good fiber in order to colonize best. Eat lots of low carb veges. Add nuts and seeds if you're not allergic.

Thanks so much for all your help. Back home in Germany there is only one standard tratement that proved to be highly efficient: first Pro-Symbioflor, then Symbioflor 1 and then Symbioflor 2: http://www.symbiopharm.de/hp_eng/produkte/symbioflor/symbioflor.html#07

I thought you guys here might have something similar. But with your advice, I will sort things out. Thank you!

My doctor has diagnosed and is treating me for leaky gut. I have systemic yeast.

My symptoms are rheumatoid arthritis. (I do not consider this a disease but rather the title for a disorder)

I am taking a probiotic called Ultra Flora once daily. I am taking several kinds of enzymes and amino acids. Here is the list and amount daily

Vitalzym 10 capsules
Similase 3 capsules
Platinum Plus 4 capsules

Additionally, I am taking the following daily doses

Liver PF 3 capsules (supports the liver)
CoQ10 3 capsules (supports the heart)
Quercitin 2 capsules (reduces inflamation)
Chlorella 9 capsules (removes toxins)
Coral Calcium 2 capsules (aids alkalinity)

I recently ran out of the Vitalzym for 7 days before shipment came in. My joint and muscle pain flared horribly which tells me this stuff is working.

If I cheat on my diet I flare. If I go too long without the enzymes I flare. This tells me my cause of the RA is gut related. Apparently killing all the yeast in my body is going to be a long, slow process; but I am very hopeful that at the end, I will be free of RA and will be asymptomatic.
