Well,I got in to see Dr.S.in s.e. Pa.After 10yrs of hell,It looks like I am fially going to get some help.Only catch is I am going to get a pic line in.insurace will only cover 1 month,but I guess it is better that nothing.My questions are:How much does it interfere?I need to try to keep working if possible.Very physical and dirty job though.(machining graphite and carbon)What do I get to look forward to?Probubly going in 1st week of july.I guess the beach is out for a while...

Ichabod, would it be possible to get a PORT instead ? If not, you'll definitely need to keep some type of dressing over it to keep out dirt, etc.
Perhaps, they can stitch it in place to try to hold it steady ? Normally, hard physical exertion and PICC's aren't a good combo.
Perhaps, Bicillin shots are an option ?

I am on my second picc line, which was inserted yesterday. God willing, this one will last a year like the last one! At any rate, I was told not to do any heavy lifting, and you do wear a cloth covering to protect the site from infection, etc.
You can not swim with a picc line, but if you get a cast cover, which is like a huge, long plastic mitten that snuggly fits around the upper part of your arm, you can go into the water. That is what I have done. (These can be found at medical supply enterprises, which also rent/sell things like crutches, walkers, etc.)
Ports are fine, and you can swim, etc. However, they are more invasive in that they must be surgically inserted under the skin. I don't have personal experience with ports, so you can ask the others.

Looks like it is moot anyway.The co.I was working at does not have any "light" work for me.So going to have to tough it out financailly for the month that my insurance will cover and hope it will be enough time to help get better. The port may not be a good iea for me.I am aready turing green at the though of a needle running up my arm and into my chest for a month.Almost glad my insurance stinks
