I am about ready to battle Lyme again and I think the keats are immune to Doxy and Biaxin. I have taken a lot of both in the past. Are there any new third generation drugs now that are working good? I would like to go with IV but don't think my insurance will go for it.

It's not new, in fact it's one of the oldest antibiotics around but, people seem to do well on Bicillin LA, especially chronics. If you search the archives, you will see mostly positive comments.

A lot of people seemed to do good on Ketek, but there are links to liver damage and it's being investigated by the FDA right now.
Most people on it are getting regular liver tests. It helped me a lot.

I'm on Bicillin LA and Ketek -- it has been miraculous for me, so far! I know about the risks of Ketek, so am being careful with my liver, but I hope I can continue taking it.
I'm also treating for seronegative babs, based on symptoms alone -- that was the piece that really turned the corner for me... I feel human again!!!

Quite alot of people do well on Flagyl, I will be starting it in about 3 months after starting Oxytetracycline.

I've tried many different combinations, none totally curative yet. Currently doing quite well on minocycline, tindamax, and omnicef combo. Mainly have just a few occasional peripheral neuropathy problems left.

At the Wye Mills conference, Ketek was listed as the most effective oral lyme med with bicillin la listed as almost effective as IV.
Ketek can only be used by a % of the population - should have ekg done prior to taking this. When I was taking it I had my liver enzymes and an ekg done monthly.

I've been symptom-free for a long time on omnicef and ketek, with mountains of liver support, probiotics, and nystatin for yeast control.
Also did several months of pulsed flagyl, and treated successfully (so far) for two co-infections.

I'm w/minimonkey. I made great improvement on Bicillin La and Ketek together. After 7 mos on this combo, my Dr. changed the Ketek to tinidazole (cyst buster) and I've made even greater strides in improvement.
I know IV Rocephin is supposed to be excellent, but ultimately, I think at some point we all need to have either Flagyl (metronidazole) or Tindamax (tinidazole) for their cyst busting qualities.
I DID become hepatotoxic on Ketek once, early on in therapy, but after adding hepato-protective supplements as recommended by my Drs, my liver returned to normal, and I was able to continue on w/Ketek w/o any further problems. I do agree however, that monthly monitoring of your liver enzymes is essential if you're on Ketek. However, I would say, don't let all the negative press about it prevent you from trying it.
According to my LLNP, Dr. B has treated thousands of patients w/Ketek successfully and w/o any serious liver problems.

Biaxin seems to go well with Bicillin. I know of people who throw in either Tinidazole or one month of Flagyl each year.
