Ive suspected something fungal for a while because my saliva is so slimey and nasel drip and congestion plus many other symptoms that point to fungal.I asked my doc if i could try nystatin and she agreed. She said i could chew one to get the fungus or candida in the mouth, anyone do this.Is nystatin easy to take, anyone get any side effects?Thank you,Joe

Yes I've done it, and its the worse tasting stuff ever! [Razz] Its extremely bitter. I've also tried to disolve or crush it in a few drops of water and added stevia to make it tatse better. then I held that in my mouth a swished it around.

Some say it only works on the gut and intestinal, but it seemed to help me. I also have done a few dops of grapeseed extract in water, actually I think the nystatin tasted better then this. I have since bought grapeseed extract in pill form.

For oral yeast you may want to try hydrogen peroxide as a mouth wash, hold in your mouth as long as you can. This probably helped me more then anything with oral yeast.

hope this helps,
Lisi

Oh by the way --- Joe -- Very cool looking chair outside of Dr L's office. Nice job! [Big Grin]

I understand it is indeed very bitter! No side effects....and I've been taking it for 6 yrs now!!!!

Maybe you could go for something natural for the thrush. Others will be able to help you with that. I've never had thrush. I'M KNOCKING ON WOOD!!!

I also tried Nystatin and also mycelex for oral yeast. I came down with horrible oral yeast after doing IV rocephin 2 years ago. Have never really gotten rid of it, even with ALL the antifungal medications from doc. I use "Biotic Silver" from Candida Wellness as a rinse in my mouth. I water it down (NOT full strength)Only thing that works for me personally.

You can get it in a liquid form for rinsing the mouth. BUT, listerene will do the same thing. After using lysterene, rinse with water and chew on a probiotic capsule OR put some yogurt in your mouth and keep it there for a minute. the probio or yogurt is needed to re-populate the mouth with some bacteria so as to prevent the yeast from going crazy with no competition.

ALSO make sure to scrap off the tongue. The stuff seems to like to grow in the rough parts of the tongue and scraping is the only way to remove some of it.

Better yet ask the Dr if fluconazole can be added to the mix.

Been there done that....

I understand that Mycelex and liquid nystatin contain sugar. Beware.
