does anyone get bad joint pains while they try to sleep at night(shoulders, hips, etc..), so much so that you feel like you got hit by a truck the next morning when you wake up? I am wondering if the increased pain is due to the fact that I am on my 3rd week of anitbiotics. [dizzy]

I've been like that for 30-36 years, and was on abx for 18 months until April 06. So it's NOT just abx!

Do you have a lot of inflammation or just pain in/at the joints? My "joint" pain is actually muscle and tendon pain. Sometimes it is inflamed tendon and sometimes it is referred pain from tight muscles.

I take Flexeril, a muscle relaxer, that I need to take daily in order to keep my muscles relaxed enough to reduce the pain. I also take Vicodin when needed.

Anti-inflammatories never did anything but make me very, very tired.

I used to get very bad inflammation in my knee, never did find a good way to treat that. But I was a teenager then and scared of prescription pain meds.

All my pain gets worse with a herx. Pain was excruciating the entire time I was on Biaxin. But it has reduced with treatment, although I still feel it herxing on Flagyl.

Prior to getting dx wtih Lyme, I had such horrible hip pain that I got a new mattress, new walking shoes, new orthotics...
None of that helped.

My joint pain has been bad in my right knee and my right hip. After getting on abx, the pain got a lot worse, and now, after a year in treatment, I find it waxes and wanes.

For me, acupuncture has been a great way of treating this -- probably the most effective thing I've tried.

In addition, I have used an essential oil formulated specifically for Lyme. I use it topically each day, rubbing it into my hip and onto my knee. I do think it's helping a lot, too.

Idon't know if the pain is due to the muscle being tight. Mostly only happens when I try to sleep. I did the same thing with changing my old matress and buying a new, didn't help. I am interested in those of you that use the essential oils. Please let me know which ones work for you and where did you purchase them from.

Thanks!!

I am a newly diagnosed Lymie and am having a rough time dealing with the arthritis. Like you, I find most trouble when I lay down to go to bed and wake up. I have tried taking 800mg Motrin, but that doesn't even cut the pain. I am reluctant to ask my doc for a stronger pain med because I am not able to take them at work.
I find that a hot bath helps for a little while. I try to take my hot bath right before bed, followed by a couple tylenol PM's. I have awoken in the middle of the night with terrible pain though.
If anyone else has other suggestions, they would greatly be appreciated!

Try changing your diet. It made a huge improvement for me. I went from barely being able to stand for 5 mins. to walking two hours in just 2 weeks. You can try anything for two weeks just to see if it will work.
